We had the good fortune of connecting with Love, Alexa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Love, Alexa, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
Letters of a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke – it felt like a blueprint on how to live life, not just for creatives but for anyone. The concepts were quite simple yet poetic & profound. It’s the only book I’ve re-read a couple times.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an open book & a double Scorpio so you can only imagine how deep this book gets.

I go by Love, Alexa which is how I sign my diary entries and I describe my music as nostalgic folk pop.
My lyrics go underneath the surface & excavate what needs healing.
I wanted an artist name that felt more intimate – where it feels like you’re in my room with me as I write these songs.

It’s taken more iterations of myself that I’d like to admit to find the blueprint of my sound but couldn’t be more grateful for the path of self-discovery simultaneously as a musician and human. I started off as a teenager making music that was pop, country and blues, not that far off from what I’m doing now, however at the time I rejected it, resented it even. I wanted to be everything I wasn’t. For a while I was singing on top of EDM songs which is what helped me move out to LA from Michigan and I tried out pop/R&B for a bit but it felt off-kilter. Once I brought live instruments back into my songs, it slowly started to make sense again. I started making sense.
My music came back full circle in a more mature & realized way.

A couple months ago, I released my 3rd EP “Spring Cleaning” containing 5 original tracks about everything I was cleaning out of my life whether it be people, emotions, clothes, you name it.
As I sing in the title track, “I’ve been spring cleaning, what I’m not needing meets my open door”

I got even more honest with my emotions on this record – the good, bad & brutally ugly and I let my vocals soar in a way I haven’t before. I actually surprised myself with how big my range is, especially on the 3rd track “Mouth”.

Ever since I was younger, music has been a place of refuge for me. The safest place to be has always been where the music is and that’s what I want my songs to be for people – a safe place to feel, heal & be who they are, as they are in that moment.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let’s see I’m an eastside girlie who is passionate about clean eating so we’d go to Erewhon for a quick lunch (inevitably), All-Time or Forage for dinner, Levain Bakery for one of their epic chocolate chip cookies.
We’d catch a show at The Echo, the Fonda or the Bowl, a movie on film at the Vista and drive along Mulholland at night listening to our favorite playlists.
A beach day is a must – driving back home through Leo Carrillo State Park at sunset is absolute magic.
We’d do a little thrifting at Squaresville and Wasteland and get lost in bookstores like Skylight Books & The Daily Planet.
A game night (or five) is an absolute must.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I remember when I was 5 or 6 years old, my dad told me I could be anything in life then asked me what I wanted to do. I thought about it for maybe 10 seconds and said “singer, actress & teacher”. I had it all mapped out – I would tour and film movies in the summer then teach during the school year. The dream of being a teacher and actor faded away but singing always stayed with me. I couldn’t shake it. So shoutout my dad for giving me the freedom and encouragement to dream big & follow my own personal legend rather than fit into the mold of what a woman is supposed to do or be.
