We had the good fortune of connecting with Luis Angel Tarin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hello Luis, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking

What’s up guys, during the course of my career, risk-taking has always been something I’ve associated with opportunity, especially with something as important as networking. Most people usually get really intimidated to reach out to someone with an DM or just meeting new people in general and it can mess with them to the point to where it can really limit the opportunities they might have available to them. In my case I learned from a younger age to not get too intimated in those types of situations and I’ve been lucky enough to build a majority of my relationships with clients and friends that work in many different creative fields through networking. Meeting new people and making friends has lead to a huge amount of opportunities to be involved in projects like music videos, commercials, films, documentaries, and television shows. All of which have given me some amazing experiences while getting the opportunity to work in something I love.

I always tell myself that you’re always one decision away from the life you desire, Los Angeles is such a small place, everyone knows everyone. Being a good person, building relationships, reaching out to people, and keeping your contacts up can carry you pretty far. Words gets around and before you know it, you’ll have friends keeping their eyes open for opportunities for you. Risk taking may be scary in the moment, but what one relationship could bring you is amazing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a photographer, producer, and cinematographer, I’m most proud of being able to contribute my creative vision to different projects for many different clients as well as being able to see that whole creative process from start to finish. What often sets me apart from others is that I thrive off collaboration, I love the process of creating many different new ideas with a group of people, refining a few of them, and eventually seeing it go from paper to real life and its one of the most rewarding things to see. Even in projects that might not seem that interesting, collaboration can usually bring a new or fresh perspective to anything and despite my relatively young age compared to other professionals in the field, I have a huge amount of experience and can often take the lead in different roles. To get to this point wasn’t easy at all, it was full of networking, lots of late nights, last minute favors, and 18 hour days, but in the end you just gotta be patient and eventually it will be worth all of it to be able to do what you love and not work a job you hate everyday. In this field, those who don’t take risks often end up not going very far, but staying ambitious, creative, and willing to put 100% effort into your work will open doors for you.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I would love to thank everyone in my life that has ever sent me a potential gig, complemented my work, supported me as an artist, and otherwise been there for me since the beginning. There’s way too many people to list, but I wouldn’t be where I am without any of them.
