We had the good fortune of connecting with Luiza Comsa-Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luiza, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe that when you take a risk and when you get out of your comfort zone, the universe rewards you and it opens doors for you. Every time I took a risk I made a lot of progress in my professional life but also in my personal life
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am proud of the fact that I can reinvent myself and that I have the courage to try new paths, even though it can be uncomfortable sometimes. I danced professionally all my life and although I had a great career back home ( Romania ) I decided to move to Los Angeles and start a new chapter. It was definitely not easy at first. I didn’t know a lot of people, I was also recovering from a knee surgery and didn’t feel as confident in the dance classes or in the audition rooms, the culture was very different and I felt quite lost for a while. Little by little I decided to start taking more classes, to go to auditions and just be myself. I started making new friends, who then recommended me to other choreographers for different jobs. I got married with a wonderful man and had a son that we named Maximus, It was all working out until COVID hit. All of a sudden there was no more work. no more gatherings, no more dancing. I had to stay creative so I picked up a camera and started to take pictures of my son and my little family. I fell in love with it! I taught myself how to shoot properly, how to use lights, how to shoot videos and just like that, this new passion became my job. Today I dance, I photograph and I write and direct short films. My next project involves all my passions and I am so excited to share that with everyone. The lessons I learned throughout all of these experiences is that, if you never give up and if you follow your instincts there is nothing that can get in the way of your success
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to the beach, most likely Santa Monica and Malibu. We would have to stop for a hike at Tuna Canyon followed by a nice dinner at Geoffrey’s malibu. The next day we would go to Los Feliz for a cup of coffee maybe at Maru Coffee and then walk up to the Observatory, defintely end the day at La Pharmacie du Vin. One day should be spent in Downtown LA, We could go to The Broad, it’s a great museum and then to the Last Book Store and also eat at Perch ( great view and great vibes ). I am big fan of coffee shop so here are a few more that I really love ( all of them have great matcha ) Cafe Nido, Cafe Kitsune, Sightglass Coffee,Verve Coffee Roasters, Andante. Another cool spot with interesting people and nice vibes is The Row in Downtown LA, cool little stores and great coffee spots. Renting bikes it’s also a great idea and riding by the beach. Camping at Leo Carillo in Malibu for a night it’s a great experience ( you can also bring your furry friends here ). I would also take my friend to Westwood, for some good food at Wolfsglen and for a sound bath at Unplug Meditation
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my parents, my dance teachers, my husband, my son and my friends. I think that almost every person we meet in our lives can be our teacher even just for a moment. You can’t build an empire by yourself, it takes a village. It’s important to know though that some people are there for a season and some are there for a life time and all of them contribute to who we are today
