Meet Luz | Girl Coach & Mentor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Luz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luz, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I am a dedicated girl coach who is passionately committed to equipping girls with the essential tools they need to conquer life’s challenges and thrive in every aspect of their journey. With my empowering programs and insightful talks, I inspire young girls to break free from excuses, conquer fears, and navigate obstacles with unwavering determination. My approach goes beyond surface-level motivation; I focus on fostering mindset shifts that heal from the inside out, nurturing socio-emotional well-being, and cultivating a healthy mind-body connection.
As a young girl, I experienced bullying in middle school as I was dealing with the culture shock of coming from Mexico to a new country and dealing with the language barrier. I was made fun of for my unique accent when I read in front of the class and was constantly picked on for being different. This led to severe episodes of anxiety and negative thought patterns that impacted my self esteem at an early age. I didn’t feel comfortable in my own skin and was constantly judging myself (very self conscious).
My perfectionism was rigid as I didn’t allow myself to make a mistake but the worst part of all was that I was passing these deteriorating patterns onto my two young girls. My girls started experiencing anxiety and panic attacks because they were also bullied at school by their classmates. This broke my heart when I started seeing the lack of socio-emotional literacy.
I was committed to build a brighter future for ALL girls. I took my own two girls to empowerment programs and activities that would boost their self esteem. It was until I came across the GirLife program founded by Melody Pourmoradi that I learned about the girl empowerment workshops. I invested in the program as I knew deep in my heart that this kind of heartwork would support girls in their mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing by equipping them with socio-emotional tools early in life.
Challenges will always be there but if our girls have a tool kit by understanding how their mind and body works, they are set for a prosperous future.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business was inspired by my deep passion for helping girls discover their inner strength, build confidence, and develop healthy mindsets early on, giving them tools I wish I had growing up.
My heartwork focus is not just on outer success but on inner growth. I blend mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and leadership development in a fun, relatable, and heart-centered environment.
What motivates me continuously is the transformation that takes place in each program. I have had girls show up with anxiety and depression but as they go through the mindful activities of the workshps and start opening up to the awareness of their mindset, they get to see a different perspective of their inner world.
The girls gain self confidence and resilience by nourishing their self worth. It is an eye opener for the girls to hear peers talk about the negative thoughts they struggle with, opening an awareness that girls of different ages go through similar experiences.
These workshops create a safe space where girls can express their feelings and validate them.
I have been doing girl empowerment programs for five years which has felt incredible in a sense of the girls I have supported with this heartwork, the people I have met in social media and my community, the investments I have made for myself and the business.
This has opened doors to opportunities such as being part of podcasts, community events, speaking engagements, and collaborations. I have learned how to find my tribe and believe in other empowering women.
Whereas, the challenges have been real in the sense of building up a business behind the scenes. I am faced with tech issues by trying to build a website and landing page, setting up payment methods, automating systems as much as I can to save time.
Building awareness and visibility for girl empowerment programs can be difficult at times, especially when competing with larger, more established organizations with greater marketing budgets.
There is also the part of parents not seeing the value in investing in their daughter’s self confidence because it is not something visible or tangible. Some parents rather invest in materialistic things for their daughters or wait until their daughter is suffering from mental health issues like anxiety or depression. They don’t see this as a preventive program that can equip their daughters with mindset tools to thrive in the future.
Overall, while my small business in the realm of girl empowerment faces various challenges, I am happy to be doing what I love as this is my passion. These challenges have also given me the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by leveraging my creativity, innovation, and passion for empowering girls. Through strategic partnerships, community engagement, and a commitment to my mission, my small business can overcome these challenges and create a positive change for girls in their communities.
I want the world to know that I am a heart centered person who is planting seeds of authentic love and empowerment. I want each girl to know that their identity is not based on what they do but it’s who they are being in the world. They are wonderfully made and can show up as they are in their unique way. Keep shining bright GIRL!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend is visiting me and I am excited to do some sightseeing in LA.
I would start by having her try the chilaquiles de birria with a cafe de olla at “La Casa de la Abuela,” in the City of South Gate. This place creates the cozy ambiance for a delicious breakfast to fuel up for the day.
We will then head out to Little Tokyo for a stroll in their picturesque streets. We would stop at the Market Place for an authentic Asian snack as we walk around.
Then, we will head out to the beach by eating at “The Good Stuff,” in Hermosa Beach. After our meal we will relax at the beach with a great chat to catch up on the latest life experiences.
We would end the night at the Griffith Park gazing at the stars and seeing the Hollywood sign all lite up. This would be a great place to conclude our LA time.
This is what I love about LA that you can find everything in this famous city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Founder & CEO of GirLife Academy, Melody Pourmoradi has been a key person in my personal growth as a girl coach. Her program has supported me in building a heart centered business. I feel fortunate to have met her during the pandemic when this program was needed because girls were experiencing anxiety and depression. The mindset and mindfulness tools that the program offers has had a positive ripple effect in my community. Girls come out confident and resilient when they learn that they get to choose their thoughts by validating all their feelings. Girls start trying new things and exploring the world from an empowering perspective. I am forever grateful to have Melody Pourmoradi in my life and see that her program is creating a positive impact around the world. We need this now more than ever!
