We had the good fortune of connecting with Lydia Dupra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lydia, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
When I solve all the problems for my community, I’ll end my career. I don’t have a goal for myself material/achievement wise. Whatever I end up with is what I deserve for my efforts and I will accept it.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Heaux Cosmetics has faced a lot of unique challenges, the most difficult one was having to compete with my own image. Fake pheromone brands started popping up and using my face and product images to drive sales at rock bottom prices for their counterfeit products. I was being cannibalized…by myself!
I decided to open a retail storefront to counteract that. A fake brand could never do something as authentic as invite their customers to walk through their doors and try the products in person. I feel it really helped silence these fraudulent companies and I plan on opening more locations in the near future. I also constantly upgrade my packaging and customer experience to avoid copy cats ever being able to catch up.
Another important lesson I have had to learn is not to collaborate with anyone you are not willing to lose from your life. Keep your friends as your friends, employees as employees and family as family. It will keep the inevitable pain human relationships cause from doing any damage to your company. You’d be shocked at how even small amounts of money and success can bring out the worst in people. So it’s best to hire people that you don’t have an attachment to in order to make the best choices for your companies future.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am the worst at this. If you want to hang out with me, you’ll have to come to the office because I’m there 7 days a week and work 12-16 hours a day. Sorry, ask your fun friends where to go! I am here to supply your pheromone needs and improve your business acumen.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Besides God, I have to give it up to the heauxs. People really do not give sex workers a chance but they are the definition of ‘ride or die’ and I owe everything I have to them. There was never a brand before to focus on them as the primary customer base. When I launched Heaux and catered to the specific needs of sex workers it created a loyalty from my audience that has been able to help the company survive all economic conditions. A win for Heaux Cosmetics is a win for sex workers everywhere. We are happy to serve everyone but will always design our products with sex workers in mind first. I am so indebted to my community, there is nothing I wouldn’t do for their safety and happiness as a brand owner. There are celebs in our community that have also boosted Heaux and that is Julia Fox and Shera Seven. Their endorsement of the effectiveness of our products is priceless and so very appreciated.
