Meet Lyle del Mundo | Executive Director & Dot Connector

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lyle del Mundo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lyle, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I began my creative career path at an early age really because it was what I was passionate about and believed I can be successful doing., In most Filipino households, our parents were supportive of having us learn musical instruments, various forms of dance, bought us tools to create amazing art work, and even gone as far as having us join choir to showcase our natural talent in front of family and friends at a young age during gatherings. Then as we got older, the funny thing is they weren’t as supportive because they didn’t see creatives as a sustainable occupation and wanted us to focus more on professional careers that was financially fruitful at the time like working in the public sector, medical, legal, and financial industries. But I continued doing what I loved and showed them at the age of 12 that I can earn a decent amount being a mobile DJ during my middle and high school years part time, while my classmates mowed lawns, delivered newspapers, or shoveled driveways to earn.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is called +6THR3E: LLC a marketing consulting agency which specializes in brand partnerships and what sets us apart from most is really bridging the Filipino and Filipino American communities and brands with some of the most recognized names in mainstream media. I would have to say, how I got to where I am today is decades of building relationship capital with like minded people. I took the advice of both my parents, on one hand my Mom had taught me at an early age that its better to build bridges than burn them and on the other hand my Dad taught me sometimes its not necessarily what you know but who you know. Definitely I believe and used their advice to my advantage and leveraged those relationships to successfully build +6THR3E: LLC. A fun fact, the reason why I named my company +6THR3E is because it is a cryptic way of waiving the Filipino flag because it is the country code you need to dial when calling the Philippines, +63.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite place to show visitors is Historic Filipinotown because of its rich culture and history of our Filipino American community. Typically I start at the HiFi Western Gateway on Temple Street and make a stop at one of the oldest Filipino American nonprofits Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA) and tour them of their new facilities called HiFi Collective which was a big part of the succession plan I inherited when I was still President of the Board. Then I’d continue touring them down the street showing them the various murals and Filipino themed street lights that line Temple Street. We grab a snack at Temple Seafood Market the oldest Filipino grocery store on the block, then continue down the street to visit the WWII monument at Lake Street Park. After paying our respects there to the soldiers that served our country, we’d continue down Temple to have lunch at The Park’s Finest which is one of my favorite BBQ spots and showcases American cuts of meat with Filipino flavors. After lunch, we’d cut through over to Beverly Blvd. to show the fairly new constructed HiFi Eastern Gateway before heading to the largest Filipino mural in the country named Gintong Kasaysayan by an old friend Eliseo Silva which shows an amazing historical timeline and artistic journey of our community. We’d walk over to Boba Guys for a quick beverage and then maybe get another snack at HiFi Kitchen across the street before checking out the sister mural on the opposite of the Rideback Ranch building that has a massive Welcome to Historic Filipinotown by Ame72 and Kristian Kabuay. We’d continue down the corridor to check out more amazing murals and maybe end the quick tour for Happy Hour at Thunderbolt which is a favorite watering hole for locals.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to Shoutout my family and friends for believing in me all these years and also Shoutout the HATERS who don’t believe and waiting for me to fail. Both harmoniously push me to be a better version of myself, not only for my family but especially for the community I serve.
