We had the good fortune of connecting with Maddox Haberdasher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maddox, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When it comes to risk, there are two mantra that I try to live by: Fortune Favors the Bold and No Risk, No Reward. I served as a paramedic in the US Army for 11 years and these two mantras have worked for me time and time again.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets my work apart from others is my ability to integrate fashion, philanthropy, sustainability and commerce. I accomplish this through my nonprofit, Juneteenth Coalition, my partnership with Uncle Nearest Distillery, and my namesake fashion house, Maddox Haberdasher. It wasn’t easy to arrive where I am today. I’ve dealt with many failures along the way but never let those failures diminish my drive or determination. What I’ve learned along the way is that no one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes, the key is to never lose hope, apply the lessons learned and be a better version of myself everyday. What I want the world to know about my story is that dreams only come true when they transform into goals.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would rent a vintage convertible from Monterey Touring Vehicles and drive down the coast to Big Sur. There I would have lunch at Nepenthe restaurant, spend the night at Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn and wake to breakfast by Deetjen’s renowned chef, Matt Glazer. Next we would take a yoga class at The Village Big Sur before driving back up the coast for late day golf at Pebble Beach. The next day I would tour the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row, grab dinner at Osteria Del Mar overlooking the bay, then a nightcap at Pearl Hour. Lastly we would spend a day touring Carmel By The Sea and end with a bonfire at Carmel Beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My community has been extremely helpful and encouraging for years. I’ve went through several iterations of community involvement and at every turn the people, organizations and leadership in my community have lifted me up constantly. Initially I thought it was due to my veteran status but over the years I’ve learned that people notice my drive and want to be a part of it.
