We had the good fortune of connecting with Mady Mcgraw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mady, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I know it sounds like a cliche to say that I had no other choice, but it was just that. This industry is really tough, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who doesn’t dream about it with both wonder and an unbreakable reverence. When I was small, music was one of the things to bring me out of my shell. I was unstoppable when I sang, fearless when I was onstage. It didn’t matter what was going on at home or at school, I knew that I could escape into those stories. It is my main goal to help others find that same escape by watching and/or listening to me at my most joyful. If I can take someone away from their struggles and worries for two hours, or even two minutes, I will consider my purpose divinely fulfilled.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is honestly whatever template I am blessed enough to tell a story with! I have my bachelors degree in musical theater, which I adore pursuing, as well as acting for the camera, which is such an art in itself. I’ve even had the chance to dance professionally, something I didn’t know I would be able to do when I was younger! But music is where it all started with me. I see music as poetry, and I love to write it as such. I want my lyrics to be gentle on the ear, but be able to sometimes send a familiar pang of hurt to the heart, only to for it be soothed with the balm that is learned wisdom and peace. Through music, I aim to walk in shoes that anyone can put themselves in, but especially young women who share my similar traumas and moments of growth (Depression, CSA, and navigating my newly diagnosed neurodivergence, to name a few). I think one of the most important facets of healing and growing is to build a community and to know that you’re not alone. It thrills me to see how music brings people together, and that’s what propels me to do open mic nights, and show my work to my fellow creatives in the hopes that it will grow into something strong with longevity.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh I absolutely love the Getty! It is free (apart from parking) and it houses some incredible art. It also supplies an unbeatable view of Los Angeles, from the mountains all the way to the ocean, especially on a clear day! I also really enjoy the Americana in Glendale–mostly for its three-story Barnes and Noble! I could spend hours in there! Because I’m a nerd at heart, I adore the Scum & Villainy Cantina–it’s a Star Wars/sci-fi themed bar in Hollywood that has the best karaoke nights!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout to my best friend, fellow Winnie the Pooh lover, and show-stopping performer, Emily Guerrero! Thank you for accepting me at my most vulnerable, making me laugh so hard that I cry, and for constantly lifting me up with the strength of your joy. You are truly one of a kind, I love you!
