We had the good fortune of connecting with MAE SEVEN and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MAE SEVEN, how do you think about risk?
Moving across the Atlantic was a big decision. We left most of our family behind, along with other career options. It wasn’t easy. We had no idea where we would end up and had to build new relationships from scratch.
Despite the challenges, we’re happy we took the risk. Even though we’re still working towards success, it’s already been worth it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHERS?
We are from a small town in The Netherlands, called ‘s-Heerenberg, and have always had dreams to make it big in the American music industry. Unfortunately, it is not as simple as packing your stuff and booking a flight. Navigating the visa process to perform, sell music, and collaborate with other artists is a whole different ball game. But going through that journey together creates a work ethic and a sort of “no way back” type of mentality. On top of that, being brothers who write and produce together creates a deep musical connection that translates into our distinctive style.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OR EXCITED ABOUT?
Styn, singer and songwriter of MAE SEVEN really carries the artistry being the front man and face of the duo. All our music is truly the soundtrack to our own personal movie. We write about what we experience, if it’s good, bad, emotional, or just downright dope. This gives a sense of vulnerability and satisfaction.
As DJ/Producer, Winter has established himself as one of L.A.’s favorites – curating monthly sets for Soho House, The Bird Streets Club, Lock & Key & Blind Barber to name a few.
We are probably most excited to see where our career is 6 months from now.
HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY PROFESSIONALLY? WAS IT EASY?
The biggest hurdle? Balancing consistent work output with strategic networking. Maintaining a steady flow of projects while also getting in front of the right people can be a real challenge. It’s tough to filter out those who won’t significantly impact our careers. Thankfully, our Dutch directness and strong bond come in incredibly useful. This journey would have been infinitely harder if we were tackling it solo.
WHAT ARE THE LESSONS YOU’VE LEARNED ALONG THE WAY?
Forget the highway to success – it’s more like a winding backroad. Be prepared to adjust your course, explore unexpected detours, and discover hidden opportunities where you least expect them. (and be ready to recognize these opportunities!) But through it all, remember: perseverance is key. Don’t give up – the destination is worth the ride! It sounds so cheesy, but you really have to enjoy the journey. Keep a record of your journey, jot down the wins (big and small!), and revisit them later. You might be surprised by how much dope sh*t you’ve accomplished already.
WHAT DO YOU WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR BRAND?

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Usually, we start by showing them around Beverly Hills, cruising through the flats and checking out the views at Mulholland. Remember, almost all of our friends & family have to travel for at least 11 hours to get here and most of them have never visited LA before. So just this little tour already ticks a lot of boxes. We’ll then just make up random stories like “This here is where Tom Cruise lives” and mess with them a bit haha..
Some great lunch spots are Lorenzo California (try the Cotto!), Honor Bar (the chicken sandwich of course), Clark Street Diner and Mariscos Jalisco.
If time allows it, and they stay a couple days, a drive down to Laguna Beach or San Diego to switch it up a little bit.
For dinner we like a good home cooked meal, drink wine and share big stories at the dinner table. But when we go out we definitely need some Korean BBQ (we like Genwa in Hollywood or Magal BBQ). If it calls for a bit more upscale we like to hang out at Olivetta or Matu.
To top it off, we like to take them to Malibu for a nice drive on the PCH (if traffic allows it) a quick stop at Malibu Seafood and some sunset drinks.
And of course….. We’ll show them how we do it here in LA and take over one of the clubs for Winter’s DJ set, if we don’t have any shows planned.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A big shout out to the most important people in our lives: our parents. They’ve been there for us through thick and thin, offering unwavering support in countless ways. From instilling in us strong values like respect for others and a drive for excellence (“When you do something, do it great!”), they’ve shaped who we are. They’re our biggest fans, celebrating our achievements and cheering us on when things get tough. It’s safe to say we wouldn’t be here without them.
