We had the good fortune of connecting with Maggie Cooper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maggie, how do you think about risk?
When I think about risk, I see it as an opportunity for growth. While the idea of taking risks can be intimidating and staying within our comfort zones might seem easier, it’s worth asking how fulfilling that really is. A few years ago, I shifted my perspective and began to view risks as blessings. This change in mindset has led to some of the most rewarding moments of my life.
One of the most transformative risks I recently took was uprooting my life in Florida and moving across the country to Los Angeles, California. Fresh out of college and facing the daunting cost of living in a place like L.A., I was determined to embrace the challenge and make it work. I recognized that the opportunities, connections, and personal growth I would experience in Los Angeles were invaluable, making the risk worth taking! Since moving here, I feel I’ve surpassed my own expectations both personally and professionally. The way this move and adjustment have helped to shaped me into the person I am today is something I will never forget and will always be grateful for.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Ever since I can remember, I’ve had a video camera in my hand. What began with filming family vacations at age 10 has evolved into creating content for billion-dollar brands. From personal brand deals to UGC work, I thoroughly enjoy every aspect of the process. Managing everything on my own, without external management, is something I’m particularly proud of. I’m fully immersed in this world and find great satisfaction in both the creative and business sides of what it means to be a content creator/influencer. I’ve gained knowledge from an entrepreneurial perspective, learning how to secure deals, stay on top of deadlines, and foster long-term partnerships with brands. Content creation never truly shuts off, so my ability to compartmentalize is a gift I cherish. Over the past few years in this industry, I’ve learned the importance of knowing my worth. There have been instances where brands have taken advantage of my work, so it has become crucial for me to be vigilant about what to look out for and to always request contracts when establishing relationships with new brands. I’ve also learned to be patient with myself and not to compare my journey and timeline to others. I’m deeply grateful to do something I’m passionate about every day and it’s an honor that the brands I work with trust me to bring their products and services to life through my content. Content creation is my creative outlet, and it sets my soul on fire. I hope to continue this journey for a long time to come.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Here’s how I’d plan a weekend with friends in town:
Friday: I’ll pick you up from LAX, and we’ll start with coffee and breakfast at Millcross in Culver City. From there, we’ll drive up the PCH to Malibu, where we can spend the afternoon relaxing on the beautiful beaches. Afterward, we’ll head to Malibu Country Mart for some shopping and a late lunch at Taverna Tony’s, an all-time favorite. For dinner, we’ll stay on the westside and visit Forma in Venice, one of my favorite Italian spots. We will then meet friends at Penmar, where we will lay out a blanket and enjoy wine while spending time with friends and listening to a live band. We’ll wrap up the night with drinks at Market and dancing to live music at Winston House.
Saturday: We’ll start the day with breakfast at Gjusta Goods before heading to West Hollywood for an easy hike at the Runyon Canyon. The views of Los Angeles from the top are definitely worth the traffic-filled drive. After our hike, we’ll stop at Erewhon for lunch from the hot bar and, of course, try the iconic “Hailey Bieber” smoothie. For the evening, we can enjoy drinks at the 1 Hotel rooftop and dine at Craigs, one of my favorite spots.
Sunday: We’ll visit the Brentwood Farmers Market and then take a scenic drive around The Palisades, enjoying the stunning cliffside views. We will end the evening with a beach bonfire at Dockweiler beach playing spike ball and roasting s’mores with some amazing friends I’ve met here in L.A.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To my parents: their unwavering love and support is something I can never truly repay. From a young age, they’ve instilled in me the belief that the sky is the limit and that anything I set my mind to is achievable. They’ve also taught me the value of uplifting everyone I meet, even if it’s just with a smile, and to leave them better than when I first encountered them. They’ve shown me what it means to love deeply, work hard, and not always take life too seriously. Their unconditional love and encouragement have profoundly shaped me into the woman I am today and I am forever thankful.
I also want to give a special shoutout to one of my best friends, Julie—my twin flame who joined me in moving across the country. I vividly remember the moment we looked at each other and said, “I’ll go if you go.” Julie, you have supported me in so many ways and have been there for me through thick and thin. I hope everyone has the opportunity to experience a friendship like ours at some point in their lifetime. xx
(P.S. Shoutout to all of my L.A. girls who have made this move seamless and welcomed me with open arms, love you all so much.)
