We had the good fortune of connecting with Mahnaz Demehri and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mahnaz, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As Mahnaz Demehri, an Orange County, CA-based portrait photographer, my journey into establishing my own photography business was deeply rooted in a passion for capturing the essence of powerful women and celebrating their unique stories. The idea was to go beyond conventional portraits and create magazine-worthy images that resonate with authenticity and timelessness.
My vision was clear—I wanted to provide an opportunity for women to experience the allure of a celebrity photoshoot, not as a distant dream but as a tangible reality. The focus was on crafting portraits that encapsulated the strength and beauty of my clients, whether they chose to celebrate their individuality or share those moments with their loved ones.
Having photographed over 100 women from diverse backgrounds—mothers, sisters, daughters, grandmothers, and entrepreneurs of all ages, shapes, and sizes—I recognized the transformative power of capturing their true essence. It wasn’t just about taking pictures; it was about empowering these extraordinary individuals, allowing them to see themselves in a new light.
My commitment extended beyond the lens; it was about reshaping perceptions of personal beauty. By offering portrait sessions, I aimed to transform how each client perceived their own unique beauty. The emphasis was on authenticity—no need for major makeovers, just a genuine reflection of who they are.
In serving my clients, I identified a common thread—they were not just seeking photographs; they were seeking confidence and a profound connection to their own identity. My specialty became capturing the spirit of extraordinary individuals—legends, beautiful souls, and old spirits—individuals who viewed themselves as art and wanted images that mirrored their true selves.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a testament to the profound beauty and strength that resides within every individual. What sets my work apart is the unwavering commitment to capturing not just images but the authentic essence and unique stories of powerful women.
My journey into establishing my own photography business was fueled by a deep passion for empowering women and providing them with an opportunity to experience the allure of a celebrity photoshoot in their everyday lives. I wanted to turn the dream into a tangible reality, crafting portraits that encapsulate the inner strength and beauty of my clients, whether they choose to celebrate their individuality or share those moments with their loved ones.
The journey to where I am today professionally hasn’t been without its challenges. It required perseverance and a belief in the transformative power of photography. Overcoming obstacles has taught me valuable lessons, emphasizing the importance of resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to one’s vision.
What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that it’s more than just photography; it’s a journey of empowerment, redefining beauty standards, and providing individuals with a means to express their authenticity through timeless and authentic portraits. I take pride in capturing the spirit of extraordinary individuals—legends, beautiful souls, and old spirits—who view themselves as art and seek images that mirror their true selves.
