We had the good fortune of connecting with Malcolm Bowen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Malcolm, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up, I thought that for sure I would get into tech and computers and the like. My parents–mostly my mom, were definitely pushing me towards computers because I became self-taught and was teaching not only them how to use them but also fellow classmates in school.

But, I think, I pursued creativity because it’s one of the only outlets I found that allows me to be truly free and express myself in ways I never thought. And, to discover that I am comfortable in that space is amazing.

Creativity found me if I’m being honest. It’s something that just occurs naturally, but society and all can do so much to suppress that.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, most of my art will be on display on networks such as AppleTV+, Netflix, and Hulu at the moment. I have only booked small roles here and there on these projects. It honestly took a long time. They say it takes about 10 years for someone to break through and I guess I’m starting to.

My goal now is to land bigger and more memorable roles. I need my family to see me and be inspired.

Aside from that, I also am diving into content creation on social media. The real challenging part for me with that is the consistency aspect. I am OK when it comes to being consistent. I go to the gym every day of the week almost and my consistency has definitely paid off in that area.

With content, the creativity is still kind of hard to turn on at times. I wish it was like a switch in your house, but it’s not, haha.

I grew up in a small town, my parents weren’t making a lot of money. But, they made due. My mom taught me the value of saving money and doing your best to live within your means. I can’t say that I have mastered that yet.

My tale is one of humble beginnings. An underdog story. The journey is still unfolding and I’ve been learning to appreciate the highs as well as the lows. Because it is chock full of them!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I last did this interview, my spots have changed a little. Considering money isn’t an object, we would also go to places that I haven’t ever been to.

Places like Joshua Tree, Catalina Island, and Santa Barbara.

My best friend would totally love to go to these places because it’s something new and we are the types who like to try and experience new, exciting and interesting things.

As far as known places, we would definitely have to start with maybe brunch at BlaqHouse in Noho. Then, we’d check out LACMA and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Also, we’d check out the Griffith Observatory, and take a nice road trip to the Getty Museum.

Some places we would eat at are Qwench Juice Bar because they have great smoothies and acai bowls.

We’d also check out Raising Canes or even Howlin Ray’s because their chicken is fire!

At night we would go out for drinks at one of the Cantinas in Hollywood or Weho.

On the last day, we could go to Hollywood Boulevard and be touristy folks or take another road trip to Santa Monica where we can be tourists on the pier.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Thanks to my friend and fellow actor, Neiko Neal, for putting me on to this. Also, want to thank my mom for doing all that she could to raise me to be the person I am today. I hope that I make her proud.

Many people may not be spiritual, but God has been an extremely important figure in my life in literally all aspects. In every city I have moved to, I sought Him out by always finding a church community to be part of.

Plus, my dad’s a preacher so it would be kind of weird if I didn’t mention God if I’m being honest, haha.

One artist I can say I truly credit for inspiring me to move to LA would be UK rapper, Tinie Tempah. I would say it was kismet that I won one of his albums at a prize wheel. When I listened to some of the tracks, I don’t know, I just felt inspired to take a leap of faith. Which, has paid off and I’m grateful to still be in LA going after my dreams.
