We had the good fortune of connecting with MannyZoom and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MannyZoom, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think a few of the most important factors that makes my brand stand out would be consistency, ethics and loving what I do. Sometimes I don’t even think about the money, I didn’t choose this type of business for the money, I simply enjoy photography and working behind the scenes. And making sure that my clients feel great with the results is the best payment ever. Getting pay is the silver lining.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Photography has changed quite so much in the past 20-25 years. I learnt photography when I was in High School and we were still dealing with film photography back then. but learning to take pictures with limited quantities of options was challenging. For instance films only gave options to take 24-36 pictures per roll and you will only see the results long after you had the chance to take another image.

When digital photography started to boom in the earlies 2000, it was revolutionary. Now you can see the results right away and you had more space to save images. 100-200 was quite a lot of images back then. I suddenly saw the need to take pictures of anything just to capture the moment and started taking pictures in clubs around 2004…. hardly anybody was doing this. Then I started doing bigger and bigger events with artists from all over the place. Soon I got hired to work for a newspaper that covered all big events in NYC. Concerts, Red Carpets, Galas, Fashion Shows, A-listers interviews and so on, and I was their main photographer for all this events.

I took pictures of thousands of models, artists, actors, philantrophers, politicians, influencers, and vips…. something along the line like Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Kim Kardashian, Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Jill Biden, Bill Murray, Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Sophia Loren, Whoopi Goldberg, George Clooney, Lady Gaga, John Travolta, Colin Farrell, Shakira, Vin Diesel, John Goodman and so many more.

Lots of people have called me a paparazzi but I’ve never done that type of job. All paparazzis are photographers, but not all photographers are paparazzis. And most people recognize me as the photographer of celebrities.
One lesson I’ve learnt is that everyone is different and you have to be flexible and patient.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For a whole week we can do many places in the city. Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Statue of Liberty, Hudson Yards, The High Line, Coney Island, Bronx Zoo, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Times Square, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Grand Central Station, Rockefeller Center, there are so many things to see in between these places too. When it comes to eating and drinking, that is no problem in NYC, we have so many different type of cuisines that you can eat different every day without repeating. We have plenty of sushi places in the city even vegan sushi spot. We have some places where you can eat buffet style right the middle of Manhattan. During the weekend we have something called Smorgasburg in Brooklyn where you can find so many unique styles of flavors and cultures.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
