Meet Marc Allen | Artist, Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marc Allen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marc, how do you define success?
I think most people think of success in a linear sort of way; like we’re on a game board and you just keep advancing until one day you win at life. But I think success is more about life lessons, personal growth, FAILING, learning new things and meeting new people. It isn’t so much about the end goal because sometimes it doesn’t work out the way we planned and then we think it means we’re unsuccessful. DEFINITELY have a plan and it’s fantastic if everything goes accordingly, but success is also about being flexible and open to change.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Painting often starts with color and mood. It is then inspired by fashion, pop culture, technology and science fiction. I think what makes my work unique is that there is always this underlying balance of organic and mechanic shapes. I like that some people perceive “alien” and some perceive “robot.”
As a photographer, I try and achieve the same purpose: a balance between mechanic and organic, but with a heavier emphasis on fashion.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I wont even lie to your readers, I am a HOME. BODY. lol My idea of a good time is bottles, blunts and game night. That said, I do like to hike and I love brunch! Mission Peak is a fantastic trail in Fremont if you like to hike, but you’re DEFINITELY going to need water and a can-do attitude. If you’re looking for a great brunch spot, look no further than Honor Bar and Grill in Emeryville.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
She’s not an organization, she doesn’t have a business and she hasn’t written any books but she’s my Grandmother and the has been an unwavering source of support though my entire journey. I absolutely could not have come this far without her prayers and advice so if there is anyone I want to shout out right now it’s Dorothy Rogers.
