Meet Marco R. Godoy | CEO/Self-taught Photographer @Shadow_Imaging_P hotagraphy

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marco R. Godoy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marco R., we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’ve always walked to the beat of my own drum, I’m a firm believer in jumping with or without a safety net, risk are crucial in ones life because without them we will never learn and grow. I take a risk being out there night after night with my gear to document the breathing organizim that is my city. To sit there and take risk has given me great reward but may come with great lost but it’s a gamble that I’m willing to take to share my perspective. As far as my career goes if I never took risked I wouldn’t have shadow_imaging_photagraphy and I would be crippled by the norms that society has implemented on titles. If I would not have taken risks I wouldn’t be here giving this interview to you today. Taking risk has blessed me in my life and career.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So our motto states Random Photography For Random People.. and here we try to hold true to that our images represents the everyday grind and we strive to capture the raw image and stay true to it & by that I mean we don’t Photoshop our images to the point that they’re Master piece’s, just as in life there is no perfection I don’t have anything against those who use it but part of being a photographer is to capture and steal moment’s in life that show your perspective I’ve learned that most photagraphers are selfish and don’t want to share traits techniques and are sizezing you up the second they see you because of fear of losing ones individuality but I would love to share and even teach how to capture and create your own uniqueness it’s a wonderful feeling to look threw a viewfinder and see the beauty that surrounds us the best lesson I have taken with me is to always be humble and remember that we all start from nothing it’s how you make something out of that that truly matters having thousands dollar cameras and all the new gear won’t make you a great photographer it’s how you approach and carry yourself that will build lasting relationships. Someone told me they can show me the world in a couple of shots or they can give me a basic camera but you will leave your mark in this world all take the later Everytime and that’s what I want everyone to know it’s not about fame or illusions of grander to me it’s about sharing how we see our society as a whole..

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a street photographer at heart to me there’s nothing more fulfilling than being out at night it’s when my city comes to life the smells of food from street vendors and people just living life but I would have to say hopping from Metro Link station to station is a great Way to discover and explore I would start of at my base of operations for many years the noxho redline station on lakershim going towards union station has been my favorite route you got great stops such as Hollywood/vine and Hollywood/Highland not to mention that you end up in Grand Central Station the Metro is always a pool of diversity and full of life not to mention all the great choices to eat like grand Central market downtown Pershing square exit there’s food from all walks of life. If I had to show someone my city that’s were I take him to eat great Salvadorian food and take him to the Hollywood strip and stop by Mel’s Dinner to get a milk shake and end up at Grand Central Station and show him all the access points like the art district or la placita olveira and get some true authentic Mexican food walk to city hall and show him the amazing architecture that is downtown LA. And spend the night roaming the streets of Hollywood the Metro provides everything at your finger tips just a hop and skip I don’t believe in itenarary the best way is to simply buy a day pass and pick a spot on the Metrolink map and explore it’s whenever I do that I feel more in touch with my hometown..

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So without a doubt I wouldn’t be here without my sheer will and determination I remember sitting with my first camera my Pentax K1000 35mm and going threw countless rolls of films to maybe get one good shot but i know for a fact that I wouldn’t be here without the believe and support of my best friend partner life coach and the many other titles she wears the co-owner and resident photographer Jessica Godoy @shadow_imaging_photagraphy my beloved wife she’s the one that has always pushed me to create and express myself to share my images that where just sitting around not being viewed shes the one that said I think you have something here and I can’t thank her enough words can’t express how much gratitude I owe this kind loving human being who has taught me compassion love and giving me the opportunity to go out night after night and share my perspective without a doubt I wouldn’t be here with out her being my back bone, my mother once said that the man maybe the head of house hold but I’m the head and make it turn where need be I never understood that until I met my head of house hold so thank you for your neverending support. But I also love this opportunity to say thank you to the ones who always believed in me you know who you are. ..
