We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcus Braveboy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcus, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?

I’ve been in love with music creation and songwriting from as far back as I can remember. My dad would drop me to nursery school as a toddler and we would compose fun songs together about the most random topics.

I also started playing the clarinet and learning music theory at age 11 and by the age of 14 , I was busy recording my own mixtapes with my computer mic, using loops to make my own beats.

By the age of 15, I had my first song called “The Breathless Show” play on the radio in Trinidad and started entering local talent competitions.

I took some time off to learn more about the business side of the music industry and pursue my law education. In my mid thirties I began a professional career as an international recording artist and I haven’t looked back since.

Every day of my life involves some form of creativity, whether it’s writing songs, creating melodies in my head , or working on marketing material for my music career or clothing line Addicted To Progress.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Honestly, being an artist from the island of Trinidad & Tobago in the Caribbean , with a passion for creating international genres of music has not been an easy road.

I’ve dealt with a lot of discouragement, doubt and haters , especially in the early years of my career. My passion and love and self belief in myself and what I do , has allowed me to continue on this path and continue to prove those persons wrong.

I also have an amazing network of friends , family, supporters and fans and I’ve made so many genuine connections in and out of the industry, throughout my career. Shout out to my support circle!

My passion has always been to create Caribbean infused music that can cross over internationally and to date I have worked with artists and producers fromover 20 countries globally. My music has been featured on several Netflix shows , including Love Island, Fast and Furious Spy Racers and Selling Tampa.

My music has been used in the world of Zumba fitness as well as gaming.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite places to hang out while in LA are the Dime on FairFax Avenue and Delicious Pizza on W Sunset Blvd. you should especially check out their party event BoomYard to hear the best dancehall and reggae music. Also you should check out any event from LA Lime, founded by a friend of mine (Kibwe Trim) from Trinidad ,who lives in LA

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I would like to thank my mentors Ken Holder , Giandre Diaz, Tamara Carpette and my father Hilton Braveboy for truly believing in me and giving me a chance to begin to share my talent and creativity with the world.

I would also like to thank the following persons who have also contributed heavily to my success as an artist and songwriter: Mevon Soodeen, Isaac Rudder , Stef Kalloo , Geddes King, Michael Mooleedhar, Kevin Wild , Kevin Beharry, Alex Miura, Darius Balgobin, Richard Gosine
