We had the good fortune of connecting with Margaux Jacobs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Margaux, why did you pursue a creative career?
I painted my first painting at three years old when I tried to paint a representation of the hurricane that was happening outside my home. The hurricane was named Andrew, and it was one of the worst to hit Florida! I never had a a second thought to an artistic career… It just happened naturally.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The only thing constant about my art is how much it changes. I invite form, color, failure and a dialog with the art. My inspiration is rooted in the science of life, my experiences and what I want to see in the world. . My paintings range from complete abstraction with no substrate, to highly rendered realistic pet portraits, and everything in between. . I want to overall bring inspiration to the world, in every aspect of life, I want people to see the beauty in the natural foods available to consume. I want people to think about behavior and how it effects the greater good. I want to share the shapes and colors I see that are dynamic and silent. I want people to see humanity to see animal and nature at its worst and at its best.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First I would go to the beach! Second I would take them hiking and possibly camping in the mountains. I’d love to take them up towards big bear and the surrounding town. . I’d also see what galleries are open, and a possible LACMA trip! . I mostly cook at home, but I might take them out for some breakfast burritos in Monrovia. We also have some great Indian food… My fav

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband is always there for me. I wouldn’t have been able to go for my dreams without my parents. MIU gave me an awesome ayurveda education.
