Meet Mari Padilla | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mari Padilla and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mari, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Before BAWS, I established a business that primarily worked with a male dominant clientele. I found the importance of spotlighting the Boss Women who make Sacramento after being treated differently than my male business partner. At that moment, I felt the women making changes or creating businesses were not recognized enough. I am grateful BAWS has grown into a community and so much more. We are still highlighting Boss Women and their businesses but also curating intentional connections, collaborations, and events for our city.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the Founder of Boss Ass Women of Sacramento and XILIA Consulting, and a Partner of We Are Sacramento & The Gallery.
BAWS is a community organization that curates events, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities. XILIA is a Business Development Consultancy and a hub all things regarding starting and substaining a business. We Are Sacramento is a Media & Community Organization which produces local podcasts and curates events and art shows. The Gallery by We Are Sacramento is an Art Gallery and Event Venue and our newest business endeavor.
Being involved in so many things can be a lot at times, although, I am blessed to have a friends, family, and a community who will go out of the way to support me. If I need to share ideas, in search for something, or need extra hands at an event- they have my back.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend is visiting Sacramento for a week, we are making sure they see how diverse my city is. All about local events, so look up events on EventBrite and you’re sure to find something fun to do.
My Recommendations:
– Oak Park Brewery
– Cafeteria 15
– Maya’s Taqueria
– The Gallery by We Are Sacramento
– Farmers Market
– Local events/showcases
– Fab 40’s
– Midtown drive for a look at murals

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Who I am today, has stemmed from my experiences and the people I have surrounded myself with. Super shoutout to my family, my man, the BAWS, We Are Sacramento, and The Gallery teams, and my best friends. They all have a special place in my life and I for sure wouldn’t be who I am today without them.
