Meet Mariam Kabba | Podcaster

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariam Kabba and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mariam, why did you pursue a creative career?
I didn’t necessarily choose a creative path—Allah placed it in me. Speaking, storytelling, creating—it’s always been a part of me. I just didn’t realize it was a career until I started seeing how my voice impacted people. I pursued this path because I got tired of seeing the same narratives, the same boxes people try to put Black Muslim women in. I knew I had something different to offer.
For me, creativity is freedom. It’s healing. It’s connection. Whether I’m behind the mic on Unwrapped Real Talk with the Black Hijabi, sharing a vulnerable moment, or recording a halal food review, I’m creating from a real place. This isn’t for clout—it’s for change. It’s for the girl who feels unseen, for the revert who’s struggling, for the person who just needs to hear, “You’re not alone.”
This path chose me. And I’m grateful I had the courage to say yes.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Tell us about your art and what sets you apart.
My art is storytelling—raw, real, and unapologetically Muslim, Black, and woman. Whether I’m behind the mic hosting Unwrapped Real Talk with the Black Hijabi, or on the road driving trucks, I’m creating space for voices that are often overlooked. What sets me apart is my ability to turn everyday moments into meaningful conversations—conversations that blend humor, faith, vulnerability, and truth.
What are you most proud or excited about?
I’m proud of the community I’ve built through my podcast. Hearing people say they finally feel seen, or that a certain episode brought them peace, clarity, or even a good laugh—that’s what keeps me going. I’m also excited about expanding into new ventures like halal food reviews and growing my presence on platforms like TikTok and YouTube. My voice is expanding beyond just stories—it’s movement, it’s healing, it’s education.
How did you get to where you are today? Was it easy?
It wasn’t easy at all. I’ve faced self-doubt, heartbreak, being misunderstood, financial struggles, and trying to balance being a mother, a creator, and a businesswoman. But I kept showing up. I leaned on my faith and took it one day at a time. I knew Allah gave me a voice for a reason. Every trial came with a lesson—and alhamdulillah, I’m still standing.
What lessons have you learned along the way?
I’ve learned that authenticity wins. You don’t need to fit into someone else’s mold. I’ve also learned the power of dua, the importance of discipline, and that it’s okay to outgrow certain environments and people. Growth can be lonely, but it’s necessary.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand?
I want people to know that Unwrapped Real Talk with the Black Hijabi is more than a podcast—it’s a space to breathe, to cry, to laugh, and to learn. My brand is rooted in realness. I’m not here to sugarcoat—I’m here to help people unwrap who they truly are. Whether you’re Muslim or not, hijabi or not, this is a space for truth. A space for heart.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
