We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariana Corella and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mariana, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic and creative career because of my passion for fashion and clothing. Ever since I was young, I found myself immersed in the world of fabrics, catalogs, and designs, which always fueled my fascination for the industry. Although I made the practical decision to study Business in college, to equip myself with tools and knowledge for future entrepreneurship, I always knew I wanted to pursue an artistic venture.

Fashion, to me, is a means of self-expression. It allows us to communicate our unique identity, cultural influences, and creative ideas through clothing and accessories. I have always been captivated by the power of fashion to create new forms of expression and bring joy to people’s lives. Clothes can empower individuals, boost their confidence, and bring playfulness to their lives. I wanted to play a role in creating pieces that would allow people to do this.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets us apart at Hype and Vice is our commitment to creating innovative products and our deep connection with our core audience. We prioritize understanding our customers’ needs by actively listening to their preferences, observing their fashion choices, and staying ahead of upcoming trends. Our goal is to fill the gaps in the market and deliver fresh, trendy designs that resonate with college girls and truly reflect their style. Doing this has not been easy. We operate in the sports licensing industry, which has traditionally been male-dominated and resistant to change. But we didn’t let that deter us. We faced numerous challenges along the way, and at every turn, we refused to take “no” for an answer. We knew that we were creating something special, something that girls would genuinely want to wear and feel excited about.
Our determination and refusal to settle have been the driving forces behind our success. We continually push the boundaries, take risks, think outside the box, and constantly challenge ourselves to deliver designs that surpass expectations.
So, while the road hasn’t always been easy, our passion and dedication have kept us going. We are proud of what we have accomplished thus far, but we’re far from done. We will continue to listen, innovate, and push boundaries to create designs that empower and excite our audience across the country.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Two incredible people that I want to dedicate my shoutout to are Kimberly and Cecilia, the founders of Hype and Vice. I want to express my heartfelt appreciation and recognition to two amazing women who have played a pivotal role in shaping my career and contributing to my success. As young Latinas like myself, they serve as profound inspirations to me. Witnessing their incredible achievements has been inspiring and motivating. Not only have they broken barriers in a male-dominated industry, but they’ve also created a space for other minority women to step up and lead.

Kim and Ceci have been more than just bosses to me—they’re mentors and champions. They’ve believed in my abilities, given me the confidence to take on challenges, and supported me every step of the way. I owe so much of my growth and success to their guidance and unwavering support.
