We had the good fortune of connecting with Marie Wilde and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marie, why did you pursue a creative career?
It was a nagging feeling that would always follow me throughout my life. A reoccurring reminder to be an actress. As a child, it was, “Look, do this!” As a teenager, it was, “Hey, that’s cute and all. but make sure you do this.” As an adult, it became, “I’m going to rock your world until you do this.” Chaos ensued for a time; nothing I did worked or satisfied me. I got tired of being unhappy so I decided I had nothing to lose doing what I always loved. Things got quieter, it’s not easy, but significantly better. And the nagging stopped so I believe I made the right choice.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Now that is a question. I have many creative outlets such as sketching and writing, but my main love is acting. What sets me apart from others is my essence. No one can ever take that away or copy it. Yes, I’m confident in my acting and I do it well, but so can others, however, no one has my essence. I lost it at one point, but after accepting myself fully and identifying false beliefs, I was able to return to myself. Now, I’m bouncy and always looking for solutions. I’ve developed a lot of depth through pain and it made me understand myself and others better. These two things are so vital for my career. I was able to get here by being my own machine and I utilized what I learned when I wasn’t living in my purpose. Every single experience from that phase has given me the skills and knowledge to get me here. I am so proud of being at this moment. Right now, even though there are more places I want to go, I’ve done a lot and I went from green beginnings to professional representation. I wanted to be in this position so bad a few years ago and now, here I am existing in it. I just had a film I’m starring in premiere at a film festival and I teared up watching the credits. It feels so filling to live out my desires and holding on to that feeling will keep me going. Because it is extremely hard in this industry. I don’t know why anyone would purposely choose acting if they don’t have a burning desire for it. I’ll take as much fuel as I can get. I learned along the way the power of authenticity and not taking things personally. I want the world to know that I’m here and I want to share my gifts with you. I believe we’re all were born with some gift that helps heal people. Some people do it through music or comedy and I do it through acting. Someone could feel seen and validated through me. I also want people to see me and feel encouraged to take control of their lives too. I had the plan “A” in writing and journalism; I decided not to further pursue it. You don’t have to be miserable. It won’t be easy, but nothing is so pick your hard.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Good Nite in North Hollywood is a great start. It is a karaoke bar, but every time I’ve gone it’s been a supportive crowd. The atmosphere is judgment-free and you can even go alone and not feel weird about it. The drinks are affordable and that’s your ticket to get up and sing. People are out looking to have fun so there’s no pressure to get it right. I’m not a singer, but I love to sing and if I can get up there and screech, you will be fine.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout out my therapist, “Patti”. She has been a huge part of spotting my own blind spots and a positive figure throughout my journey. Patti, I know you’re reading this because you just found out, haha. Thank you for your encouragement and hearing me in my most vulnerable moments. You are so funny and uplifting. You’re a phenomenal woman and it’s an honor to know you.
