We had the good fortune of connecting with Marielou Mandl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marielou, what’s your definition for success?
Success is in the journey, not the destination. If you only measure success by an end result, the goal you want to achieve, you will be left feeling unsuccessful because what happens next? What happens after you achieve that? There will always be something else. I prefer to measure my success in the process of growth. Am I taking steps towards my goals? Yes? Then that is success. Am I persistent in my efforts? Yes? That is success to me. Am I continuing to be true to myself and my mission? Yes. That is how I define success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been a content creator for as long as I can remember. If ever I had the option to do a video essay, a short film, a visual interpretation of a project, I always opted for that. And this was before we had the technology we have access to today. My mini DV camcorder was my best friend. I truly am passionate about what I do and creating content is something I will do no matter what. I just love to create and because of that, I have made it my career. Content creation is now such a common task because of social media, but not everyone feels confident in doing it. My mission is to help anyone that needs encouragement and empowerment to do so. If you want to be creating content, I am here to tell you that you do deserve to be creating content. This is not something that others do and you just have to watch – if you want to participate, you can! It is one of the most accessible forms of creativity that we have access to right now. My brand was built on helping friends that needed tips on how to take a photo for Instagram or make a video for YouTube. From that, I developed my library of tutorials which I am really proud of now because they are helping creatives all over the world! I get comments from people in France, the Philippines, and India! It blows my mind how connected we can be and I want to continue to grow my global community of confident content creators.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If they have never been to LA, definitely all of the tourist spots – Walk of Fame, Santa Monica Pier, Rodeo Drive. It is always fun to see out of towners experience that. I would bring them to Santee Alley for shopping and the Getty for the views. Let’s be real, though. This visit would really be all about the food! I would take them to Bestia for a nice dinner, the bar at the top of the Westin Bonaventure for a sunset happy hour, The Rendition Room for drinks – but I wouldn’t tell them where we were going until we were there! Grand Central Market for variety. Chichen Itza for my favorite tacos in town. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shoutout to The Artists Way by Julia Cameron. If you haven’t read it yet, GO GET IT NOW! If you have already read it, go through it again. And again. It is my number one recommendation for any creative person’s journey.
