We had the good fortune of connecting with Marisa Cabrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve been a hairstylist for 28 years. For 20 of those years, doing hair was a hobby I did in my home garage. 8 years ago I finally had, had enough of working a full time job and decided to fulfill my dream of owning my own Salon Studio. I had tried working in a traditional Salon but soon realized that I enjoyed working one on one with my clients. So I opted for a Salon Studio.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Last year I took a course to become a Hair Loss Specialist. There are very few Hair Stylists that have an in-depth knowledge of hair loss. When I opened my Salon Studio in 2017, I knew I wanted to focus on building a clientele that was experiencing hair loss, but didn’t become a Specialist until I took the course.
However it wasn’t easy. Before I opened my Studio, I hired a business coach to guide me on what it would take to build a clientele and run a successful business. Because as she says “you not only have to work in your business, but you have to work on your business “.
I over came challenges by always being willing to learn. Even though I’ve been a licensed Hair Stylist 28 years, I’m constantly educating myself.
The lessons I learned are the importance or consistency. Working in a digital world requires you to be consistent so you don’t fall behind on what is now working.
I took a very untraditional route to becoming a Hair Stylist, but I think for that reason I continue to enjoy my craft. I’m also a perfectionist to a fault at times. But I believe that is why I have a very loyal clientele and many 5 star reviews.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Ramon, my mom Cecilia, my family and the best clientele.
