We had the good fortune of connecting with Maritsa Aguilera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maritsa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Aesthetic has always been a passion of mine. As a teenager, I would compare skincare products and do as much research to help with my acne and cellulite. I learned that over-the-counter skincare products were not as effective as those of a licensed esthetician or dermatologist. During the last quarter of my esthetics course, I couldn’t wait to graduate. All I was looking forward to was being able to help those who felt insecure within their skin. I say this because I too felt insecure about the acne on my face and cellulite on my thighs. Through trial and error and having the access to professional-grade skincare products and courses, I stumbled upon two things that would change my skin and body. Seabuckthorn oil and body sculpting gave me the confidence I needed. The confidence of these two was life-changing! Seabuckthorn oil cleared my acne and body sculpting got rid of my cellulite, I no longer needed to hide behind makeup. After a few body Sculpting sessions, the cellulite on my thighs was gone! I could now wear shorts proudly. I knew that if these two things could help me, they could help other people feel good about themselves too.
This is why Curves and Aesthetics by Maritsa opened. I have been in business now for close to 3 years. I wanted my salon to be a place that could help you with your skin, whether with acne or body insecurities. I would introduce Seabuckthorn oil during their facials while educating them on how less is always more with your skin. This one product works as an oil cleanser and moisturizer. It balances the sebaceous glands and produces sebum (oil on our skin), hyperpigmentation, and moisturizes.

With body sculpting, I had to educate clients and have them try a session to be able to see the results. However, once they saw the results they were hooked. Not only would they buy packages but they would tell their family and friends which I love! To help my clients achieve their goals with body sculpting I combine cavitation and wood therapy ( using a wooden tool to manually move fat and smooth cellulite) which helps with lymphatic drainage too. They lose inches, diminish their cellulite, and stretch marks, or just achieve an overall more toned body.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I would say one of the difficulties was introducing a treatment that wasn’t really well known. Through educating clients and people I meet and posting before/after pictures on social media to get their attention and get people to start asking questions about what that client had done. They want to know how and if it can help them too.

Seeing and hearing how confident my clients feel is what makes it well worth it.

What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business? Not sure if the word is luck, but I would say I have been very blessed to be able to pursue my passion. I have been very blessed with amazing clients who have helped with word-of-mouth referrals, which has greatly helped my business. They say that when you love what you do it doesn’t feel like work and I think that’s very true. True thankful I get to wake up and do what I love.

I’ve learned to keep going and never give up. No matter what obstacles come along the way, things will always work out in the end.

What I want others to know about my brand is that THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL! I want to help them embrace their beauty no matter what that looks like.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It’s a sunny Sunday morning, I meet up with my best friends Ashley, Lex, and I are hitting a local spot for hiking Fryman Canyon Park. I’m still a bit new to hiking, this is one hike I would recommend to any newbie hikers out there. It’s a 3-mile hike with an incline too. The scenery is beautiful too. I love this trail, the end of the walk it takes you into a really nice neighborhood. After our hike, we head to either Melrose Trading Post or the farmers market in downtown LA. They have all sorts of fresh quality produce. This is something I look forward to doing all week. So come Sunday, I can’t wait to walk around the farmers market, and get a fresh-pressed smoothie, along with some delicious fruit. You can not go wrong with thrifting or getting fresh produce. I recommend everyone go to these places at least once.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my mom for being my number one supporter. She has believed in me since day one. Especially when I first started my business. Her support has meant the world to me, without her I don’t think I would be able where I am now. Forever thankful, even on those moments when I had wanted to give up, she is there to keep me going. Thank you, Mom.
