Meet Marquise Myles | Mortgage Broker and Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marquise Myles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marquise, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The journey toward starting my own business was deeply rooted in a desire for a better life, not just for myself, but for my family. Growing up with modest means, I often found myself yearning for the luxuries seemingly out of reach due to financial constraints. It was those glimpses of affluence in places like Beverly Hills that fueled my aspirations. Initially, I harbored dreams of making it big in the NBA, like many young athletes do. However, high school brought a pivotal friendship and a nascent entrepreneurial spirit. From selling candy to launching our own clothing line, my friend and I tasted early success and felt the allure of entrepreneurship. Despite dabbling in various jobs, I couldn’t shake the feeling of discontentment with the traditional workforce hierarchy. It was around the age of 23 that I discovered the mortgage industry through acquaintances living the lifestyle I admired. Determined to chart my own path, I immersed myself in learning the ins and outs of the business, overcoming stereotypes and biases along the way. Opening an office in Beverly Hills symbolized both a strategic move and a declaration of intent. With each closed deal, my confidence grew, solidifying my belief that entrepreneurship was my true calling. Embracing the ethos of continuous learning and innovation, I honed my expertise, culminating in the birth of Loan Genius, a testament to the transformative power of determination and perseverance.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the Loan Genius, and what sets me apart is not only my deep knowledge of the mortgage industry but also my unwavering commitment to people. I thrive on the diverse challenges that being a mortgage broker presents; every client is unique, and I relish the opportunity to find solutions tailored to their needs. Nothing about my journey has been easy. I had to bring on a friend with more experience in the field just to grasp the intricacies of closing deals. During the tumultuous period of the financial meltdown from 2008 to 2012, I had to rapidly expand my expertise to include various loan platforms like private money, commercial loans, and loans for business owners. It was a relentless hustle, but it honed my skills and propelled me to become the best at closing deals that others deemed impossible. Building relationships with key figures in lending institutions became crucial, ensuring efficiency in getting deals done. The lessons I’ve learned are invaluable: resilience, reliability, availability, and above all, being a closer. I want the world to know that I am the Loan Genius—I thrive on challenges, I deliver results, and I close everything.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I have friends visiting Los Angeles, I make sure to give them a taste of everything the city has to offer. We start by exploring the iconic spots they’ve seen in movies, like the Crenshaw area, where we cruise down the strip, taking in the vibe and history of lowrider culture. Downtown, we check out Crypto Arena for some modern entertainment, then venture further to Skid Row for a sobering glimpse into another aspect of the city. Of course, a trip to Beverly Hills is a must, whether it’s for shopping or simply soaking in the luxurious atmosphere. If time allows, we head to Universal Studios for a day of thrills and movie magic, followed by a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk at Venice Beach, immersing ourselves in the eclectic beach culture. When it comes to dining, we indulge in both comfort food at Roscoe’s and fine dining experiences at Mastro’s and Nobu. To top it off, we gather with our LA friends for dinner, fostering new connections and creating unforgettable memories of the city of dreams.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success would not be where it is if it wasn’t for certain people in my life in different stages of my life. My initial support came from my parents who struggled and sacrificed to provide opportunities, from year-round sports to the private schools that kept me on a positive path. Then, I’d love to express immense appreciation to my best friends and brothers, Xavier Walker and Daniel Graham, who shared and fueled my big dreams. Without their unwavering support and shared vision, our dreams might have remained just that—dreams, or at least taken much longer to materialize. The twins, Hassan and Hussien, deserve a special acknowledgment for showing me the lifestyle I aspired to and proving that such dreams are attainable. Lastly, I want to dedicate all of my success to my wife, Machelle Myles. She is the backbone of my journey, the unwavering believer in my potential even when I doubted myself. In my darkest moments, she was my guiding light, and I made a silent vow to her to strive relentlessly to provide the life we both deserve.
