Meet Martin Dara: Certified Transformational Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Martin Dara and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Martin, how do you define success?
My definition of success is much different from society’s definition. Once, I realized that I had the ability to come up with my own definition of success my entire life changed for the better. I was working for a good company out of college making good money. I had a car, an apartment, and a 401k. Through society’s definition you would say that I was very successful. Unfortunately, I didn’t want to get out of my bed in the morning. I was never excited to go to sleep, because I didn’t want to wake up the next day. Ultimately, this mentality caught up with me, and I was let go from this position.
I ended up teaching English in a foreign country only a few months later. I had no friends, no car, no 401k, and was making a fraction of the money I was making in America, Through society’s definition you would most likely say I was failing. Something completely changed for me though. I was actually excited to get out of bed in the morning, because despite making much less money, I loved what I was doing. Once I realized I had control over this, I decided to define success as going to bed excited and enthusiastic for what is to come the next day. Life looks much different coming from this place.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a certified Transformational Coach. I volunteered as a basketball coach right out of college because when I played basketball growing up I was always so afraid to make mistakes. “What if I shoot and miss?” or “What if I bounce the ball off my foot?” These were some thoughts that were constantly running through my head. I wanted to become a basketball coach so kids did not have to be afraid of mistakes. As I continued through my professional career, I began to see all the same reasons I became a basketball coach were happening in business. I noticed it occurring to friends, co-workers, and even myself.
This led to further personal development and I began my coaching training. What I have been working on now is helping people change the way they see the world. If you are afraid of making mistakes how can we partner together to change the way you are looking at making mistakes? If you are looking to build confidence how can we change the way you are looking at confidence? Where does confidence even come from? I’ve learned that we are always only one thought away from a whole new world. It took a long time to get here and there has been many challenges along the way, but now I want to help others to get to this new world easier and quicker. It is so close if you only take a look.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love going to the beach. Getting to the beach and eating some fish tacos with a Corona is my favorite type of day. There are so many fun things to do in this town. Getting into the city and walking around. Taking a trip to a Broadway show or a comedy show is something I truly enjoy doing as well. Spending time outside is always important. The most important thing to do is to have as much fun as possible. Good food, good drinks, good friends, and good music are always the key to a good week.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d absolutely love to give a big shoutout to one of my dearest friends Allie Schlener and her company, Reclaimed Alignment. You have been such a big factor to me becoming the person that I am today. I am forever grateful to our friendship. I’d also love to shoutout Ignite Global and my mentors Fernando and Lux Feliz. You two have really helped me create my career as a coach and given me support in ways that I can’t even describe. Thank you so much!
