We had the good fortune of connecting with Martina Monti and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Martina, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always felt the need to live adventures and extraordinary experiences and, as a child, I used to spend most of my time daydreaming. Me and my sister were making up our own games, creating characters and stories. Getting older, I started writing, taking inspiration from those stories. I’ve always known that I wanted to be an actress and writer. For me, writing is a way to create anything you want, any reality, world, situation, and making it real. And acting is a way to live anything you want, being able to become anybody else, but, at the same time, remaining yourself. Anything is possible, when you’re an artist.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Moving from Italy to the United States has been a big challenge for me. I had to learn English to be able to act and write, and adapting to a new culture and lifestyle hasn’t been easy. If, in the beginning, my foreign accent and the feeling of being *different* seemed like an obstacle and a disadvantage, I learned to appreciate my uniqueness and to use it for my work. I understood that all I had to do was bring myself to my art and be the most authentic version of myself. I learned to be grateful for what I have and for who I am, appreciating all the things that I’m able to do.
I’m really happy with where I am now, and very excited to move forward in my career. In the last four months I acted in four short films, worked on multiple Hollywood sets and wrote a script. Thanks to the fact that I’m bilingual, I’ve translated two scripts from English to Italian and been part of the pre-production process of these projects.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
After taking them to the most famous places in the area, like Venice Beach, Santa Monica and Hollywood (where every tourist would go), I would show them other locations that I had the chance to explore since I moved here. I really enjoyed Orange County, so I would organize a trip to Newport Beach or Huntington Beach. These cities are quiet and peaceful, and they’d be perfect for a relaxing day by the beach. Then I would take them to see the UCLA Campus and the Westwood Village. I studied at UCLA and I love the vibrancy, the restaurants, the parties and the bars in the area. Finally, the last destination would be to visit Point Dume in Malibu. We might see some dolphins!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m an adventurous person and, since I was a kid, I’ve always been a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings and J. R. R. Tolkien. I watched the movies a thousand times and read the books out loud to my younger sister. The heroes of those stories were my inspiration. I was fascinated by their courage and their strength. They would never give up on their mission and they would overcome any fear and obstacle. Coming to Los Angeles, leaving behind the life I built in my country to start a new one, being ready to face the uncertain and the unknown, made me feel like the characters of those stories. To pursue my dream of being an actress, I had to step out of my comfort zone and never look back, and I was sure that my dream was a big enough reason to do it.
