Meet Marvin Coleman | Film and Stage Writer/ Producer- Inkwell Pictures

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marvin Coleman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marvin, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is staying power and focusing on the long-term goal. Many people with great ideas, big vision, the next best thing quit before their success is realized. I have eliminated quiting from the equation.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Inkwell Pictures and Inkwell Community Arts Project is a stage and film company located in Tampa, Florida. We specialize in storytelling that Educates, Entertains, Inspires and Uplifts the broader audience. What sets us apart is the unique frame of reference that we tell our stories and our ability to empower and the fact that we build actors ands other creatives.

The thing that I am most excited about is our brand new hit stage play “Lorraine.” It is our first period piece based on the 1960s Lorraine Motel, the site best known for the tragic assassination of Dr Martin Luther King Jr. but many people don’t know that it wa a green Book Motel and located a block away from Stax Records and supported the likes of Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Issac Hayes and many more.

We started back over 20 years ago in community theater working with non-actors who showed interest in live stage entertainment. We began writing our own stage plays and producing in churches, then community theaters in the Tampa Bay area. It was not easy because most often we were self producing and footing the bill for our own shows. We learned that by identifying partners in the creative and especially in the business. community for support, we can establish a stream of support based on what people value.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Tampa Bay is a uniquely beautiful area filled with amusement parks, outdoor recreation and restaurants . 1. Busch Gardens Theme Park
2. Ybor City- Clubs and Nightlife with a Bourbon Street Feel.
3. St Petersburg Pier- Beautiful open outdoor venue with restaurants, bike paths and of course waterfront fishing
4. Lettuce Lake Park- Nature trails and sightseeing
5 Armature Works and the Riverwalk Tampa- Restored Historic Building with Restaurant and live entertainment on the Tampa Riverfront with walking paths to Downtown or via boat.
6. Sparkmans Warf- restaurants, live entertainment near Amlie Arena
7 Clearwater Beach

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to definitely give a “shoutout” to my brother, co-writer, producer and business partner Melvin Coleman. The fact that we are identical twins and partners in Inkwell Pictures and Inkwell Community Arts Project makes the creative process a lot easier. We have an ability to feed off of each other helping to expand concepts and projects.
