We had the good fortune of connecting with MARYON KING and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MARYON KING, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
My name is Maryon King, I am a singer/songwriter born in Moldova, raised between Italy and London and now live in LA. I have been exposed to so many different cultures and languages in Moldova, Italy and London since I was 3 years old and think the traditions, the food, the music genres in all of these places have heavily influenced who I am today both as an artist and person.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My journey into music began at the age of 11 after having watched Madonna perform ‘Hung Up’ on MTV. That was the inspiration that immediately made me want to get on stage and perform. while my ambition might have been there, my parents didn’t quite approve, and wanted me to find other ways to occupy my time and that was one big challenge I had to face. Luckily I was able to convince my grandmother to pay for singing lessons for me. From there after, I would constantly play various gigs including carnival in Venice. By the time I turned 18, I left Italy to study languages in London, yet I instantly changed my degree course to music facing once again my parents disapproval and so on. Switching to m music was one of the biggest moves I have made. My life would have been totally different if I didn’t follow my gut feeling. And that is one of the biggest lessons I have learned. Always trust your intuition!!
now that I am in the music industry I can say it is definitely not for the faint of heart. You will get 1000 no’s and 1 yes. Never listen to the no’s, do it for that occasional yes that will change your life/ trajectory and take you to the next level.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
if my bestie is visiting me, we will have unhinged times together in LA for sure! It will probably take her 2 weeks to recover ha! We would start the morning with a nice Runyon Hike followed by brunch at The Butcher, The Baker , the Cappuccino Maker then a walk on sunset BLV. Perhaps some shopping . Lunch at Angelini, very great Italian Restaurant. I would then take her to Santa Monica for a walk on the beach and then we would come back to west hollywood and get ready for a cheeky night. Dinner at Ysabel then EP/LP for cocktails then Bar Lis to keep the good vibes going , maybe stop at Desert 5 for extra good vibes and then afters?
Seems exhausting but I love it!
Second day it is recovery day . We would go to Malibu, have a lobster roll and walk for 1-2hours. Maybe squeeze in a mimosa or two then hit museums in the afternoon. Dinner would be sushi and sake at Sasabune in BH.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are honestly so many people I’d like to include here! firstly I want to thank my manager Jared Kaner for believing in me and working so hard to make it happen! I am always learning from him and very grateful we are a team. Secondly all the producers and writers on my current records: Joe Pepe, James Lewis, Gucci Caliente, Rami Jrade , Bendik Moller and so on.. and finally thank you to each one of you who listens to my music!! Love you all.
