Meet Matt Nasby | President of Bouquet Sound INC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Nasby and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Originally from the San Fernando Valley, a suburb of Los Angeles, grew up with an older brother and was always interested in Music. Whether it was singing, learning guitar, drums, saxophone or listening to songs over and over from all decades, I was into it. Graduated from California Lutheran University and started my career in radio as an Intern from a station called Star 98.7. Met some amazing folks who were willing to help my career because they felt the passion for radio and helped me land my first ON-AIR job for STAR 106.9 in Palm Springs.

The Radio Career took off and I found myself landing different jobs slowly moving up the ladder, KISSFM Jacksonville, FL, WPFM PANAMA CITY as Program Director, X1071 GRAND CAYMAN Program Director/Interim OM, Consultancy for a new station launch in KEY WEST.

By 2010, Launched Bouquet Sound Wedding Entertainment due to the demand of hiring me around the country to DJ Weddings. There was something special about Weddings that consistently attracted me. Whether it was the importance of the event itself or the ambition to create a smooth run of show, the goal was to create a unique experience for the guests that was memorable and fun.

Today, Bouquet Sound is one of the Most Trusted Wedding Entertainment Companies in Southern California with over 1000 reviews across the Internet, Multiple Awards Presented to us by the Wedding Industry as well as over 10 Years in a row been Awarded Best in Weddings by our past couples.

Having a strong Catholic Education growing up, I was always told that with hard work, anything is possible. There will always be the word, “No”, or “You aren’t good enough.”, but one thing that I have learned through my journey is that the more times you hear the word “NO” the closer you are to hearing the word “YES!” and it only takes ONE YES to make your career. Always learn from others, those who love you and those that do NOT as they are watching with an eagle eye so give them a great show!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since my background is in Radio Broadcasting. I learned the art of speaking into the mic and sounding natural and welcoming which is so perfect for weddings. We hear it all the time that wedding couples do not want that fake sound or even a cheesy type of delivery. We took this ability and paired it with the skills of being a great music programmer. Programming is such an important part of being a great Wedding DJ that no one talks about.

Having great programming skills can help a DJ resonate with the audience from the moment they walk into the room and carry that energy all the way to the dance floor building that musical relationship with the audience.

Whatever your passion is, always surround yourself with people that are more trained, more educated, and more skilled than yourself. Always keep growing! A dear friend of mine who is a former Midday Personality on Star 98.7 gave me a piece of wisdom that has never left me and it was shared on my first day as an Intern at the Radio Station. Lara Scott said, always grow and never stop learning. There will always be more to learn no matter how long you’ve been in the Industry and we live by those words at Bouquet Sound.

Music evokes emotion and past time memories and when a DJ can make that connection is when the magic happens. Learning the art of the quick mix, or the common beat matched mix, but elevating that to a tone-play, or a word play, or a simple effect into a drop of a new song starting with the lyrics to get you the high energy that Bouquet Sound is known for.

Our goal with Bouquet Sound is to continue the growth to different areas of the Country and always excel in the art of being a great wedding DJ. From communication, to personality, to professionalism, to passion, to skills on the DJ decks, to MC ability and most importantly music knowledge!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Highly encourage visiting Catalina Island. The City of Avalon is one of the most beautiful places in the world right off the coast of Long Beach. Believe it or not, I meet people who have lived in So Cal or even Long Beach their whole life that have never been. Paradise is just a short boat ride away! Take advantage of it!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout would have to go to my wife Tara. She is also in the Wedding Industry – Owner of Fairytale Hair and Makeup. Initially meeting online, she then saw me DJ a Wedding in Ventura and the rest is history. I was working long hours at the radio station with hardly any spare time to build a business. If I didn’t have the time to complete tasks, she would do them for me. As the saying might go….”There is a woman behind every successful man” which definitely holds true in this case! If it wasn’t for her faith and vision, Bouquet Sound would not be where it is today.
