Meet Matt Tauro | Filmmaker | Owner of Call It Captivation Films

We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Tauro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The success of our brand comes from our belief that the stories we get to share are significant and the honor of sharing being able to share them with others is one we don’t take lightly. Since our inception in 2016, our mission has been to intentionally connect with people and share their stories in a way that speaks to the heart. In our industry, it can be easy to get carried away in marketing, competing, and servicing styles that may be popular at the time. However, we have experienced that the conviction we lead with as a brand is timeless and has brought success in the marketing, competition and style of Call It Captivation Films.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what sets my art apart from other artists is the ability to create a captivating video without it feeling overly produced or forced. I’ve always held the belief that even the most mundane things are cinematic if viewed through the right lens and shared in the right light. In my style of storytelling, I pride myself on capturing special details and moments that hold meaning in a deeper way. The journey of getting to the present has been a long road of learning from mistakes, embracing the unforeseen, and humbling myself through the process.
It wasn’t easy. There were times when I questioned if the hustle was worth it. I knew that the choice was mine if I wanted to push through adversity or fall back into something “secure” or “safe.”
Realizing that I had the ability to choose the trajectory of my career was one of the most empowering revelations I ever came to understand. I learned that we each have a choice in what we do in our lives, both professionally and not. Even not choosing is a choice. And I ultimately chose to pursue my passion in filmmaking and in building a business and network that would encourage me to continue pushing forward.
I want the world to know is that pursuing life with conviction is one of the most powerful gifts you can cherish. It inspired me to flesh out the heart of my brand and business – one that based our mission on. It pushed me to face the facts and make a decision to pursue my dreams or not. It keeps me honest in the creative process by reminding me what matters in the story and to follow where my creativity leads.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite city spots revolve around great food! I believe that some of the best experiences come from some element of tasty food experiences. With that being said, some of my favorite city spots aren’t always in the “hippest” parts of town. However, a good taco or burger can make any suburb into an unforgettable experience.
I love tacos in East LA / Boyle Heights (Birrias Los Socios, King Taco, Tacos El Guero). You can enjoy tacos while taking in a unique perspective of Downtown LA!
NELA (northeast LA) is also one of my favorite parts of LA. Highland Park, Atwater Village, Eagle Rock have awesome bars, thrift shops, and restaurants retrofitted in old buildings and storefronts.
I also think you can’t go wrong with heading to the beach. I like to go down to Redondo Beach for a less busy beach experience.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to shout out all of the couples that have entrusted us with telling their story. Our clients are more than deserving of being celebrated on their wedding day – and trusting us to capture valuable moments for them to remember is an honor.
Also, respecting and admiring our unique sense of style is such a gift we hold tightly.
I would have to thank my beautiful wife and sharing her love with me. I’ve been so moved by her ability to love and the experience of being loved by her that I can’t help but try and share that experience with others.
Lastly, I would have to thank my family for always supporting me and encouraging me to make my dreams a reality – this business being one.
