We had the good fortune of connecting with Matteo Della Putta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matteo, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always had a passion for enterteining. I remember my cousins and I would lock ourselves in our rooms and put on full on shows and record them on our laptops, or we would write silly comedic sketches and commercials, make parodies of the things we saw on tv and of course, we would impersonate every single relative in sight and make a character out of them and I quickly realised that in those moments I was at my happiest. I loved the feeling of making people laugh or be moved by something I was doing. And I think that that is what pushed me to pursue this career, the more I grew up, the more I was drawn to art, I attened a lingustic high school where I was studying different literatures and I would find myself thinking of how I could bring the texts I was reading to life, I would read out loud and pretend to be on a stage or to be a narrator in a documentary and it just felt right. I realised that if acting was making the process of studying hundreds of pages a day fun, then that was my calling. The bottom line is that there isn’t necessarly a specific reason why I decided to pursue this career, I just never saw myself doing anything else and nothing has ever given me this much joy, it was just an instinct and a burning passion and I decided to follow it without questioning a thing and so far it has proven the best decision I ever made.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think that being a creative is such a fascinating way of living, because there isn’t really a blue print to follow, you can try to fall into the footsteps of the people you admire the most in the business, but in the end, you are the only one creating your own path and that’s something that really gets me going. When I look back at my life so far, I am so proud of the life I managed to create for myself. There is still so much work to do, don’t get me wrong, but the way I was able to overcome challenges and problems that were thrown at me, is something that really makes me wanna give myself a pat on the shoulder. If there is one thing I’ve learned while being an actor and a non US citizen trying to make a living in the States, is that, first of all, patience is key, there i so much waiting for answers that are out of my control, that I had to learn how to deal with being put on hold. But most importantly I have learnt to trust myself and to only look for validation from within, because this career can be confidence shattering and it can suck the passion for your craft out of you if you are not careful to where you put your values and worth.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think that I would take them on a road trip on the coast. The scenery out here it’s just so beautiful and different from what we see back home (Italy) that I think they’d fall in love with California right away.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I believe my family and my close friends really deserve the biggset shoutout. The support they have shown towards me and my career is something I would have never expected, they have been there from day one and they have never doubted me or tried to stir me away and suggested I take a more secure path. It’s been amazing to see them being so encouraging and I truly owe all of them evrything.
