We had the good fortune of connecting with Maur Kii and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maur, how do you define success?
Success is whatever ceiling you allow to hover over your career. If you don’t allow or see a ceiling then your success can’t be defined or put into a box. Success varies for some it can be meeting that new goal weight you decided to achieve at the beginning of the year meanwhile others it’s just waking up. Success for me is overall is being able to do what I love, receive my flowers for it and pass the baton onto the next generation or even helping them improve in order to become better than myself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Growing up I was always the guy who knew how to record. When you have that knowledge everyone wants to work with you but unfortunately it isn’t always for a fee. Being that kid in his room making noise till 5am instilled a work ethic in me to always see things through because if you never finish then what’s the point of starting? As I got older I left New Jersey, my home state, and was fast forwarded into adulthood being the only person I had besides new friends I made once I ended up in Lompoc, California. The music aspect of my life wasn’t easy but it came naturally. I wanted to be outside at someone’s session or show to study how they got where they were and would utilize those new tools to help level up whatever current situation I was in musically. I’ve always had a knack of taking what’s “mainstream” and putting my own twist on it. Musically I favor RnB although mostly being considered a rapper. Merging those worlds always has been my niche so to speak and now that my voice has developed more I can do that at an elite level.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Unfortunately I don’t get out as much as I should. When I do/did there would be places such as Pan’s in Culver City, taco trucks, and even the classic Olive Garden. For more tourist friendly places I’d say a good trip to melrose or Hollywood boulevard is always a good choice. Chinatown in dtla is always a good time as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents are the backbone to my success for sure and breeding the mentality I have along with my work ethic. My father always worked 16 hours or more and then my mother made sure after she worked her day job she took care of her second job of being a mother. Them instilling the morals I still carry to this day and drive is what really sparked all of this for me. My current circle of peers, friends, socialites whatever have you are the reason I still push to maintain my musical chops. If anyone of us slack we’re quick to speak up or have a side bar to figure out what’s going on and how to progress from it. Another musical credit has to be given to my old B.O.E. family created by Harmony Samuels. Steep sharpens steel and everyone from my direct superior Matt to JV to Jose to H himself always made sure I was improving and stayed on my toes. Monsters breed monsters and thanks to them I’m a way more well rounded creative due to my time with them.
