We had the good fortune of connecting with Mauricio Arrioja and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mauricio, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My ultimate ambition is to become a Creative Producer, establishing my own distinctive brand. Simultaneously, I aspire to build a comprehensive company that provides a wide range of services encompassing development, production, and post-production. These services will include the recruitment of talented Cast & Crew, as well as extending assistance and opportunities to individuals nationwide and internationally. By striving to assemble the finest team over time, my aim is to undertake larger-scale projects and cater to esteemed clients.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is my meticulous approach to creating budgets that are inherently realistic from the outset. In the United States, the costs of labor, living expenses, and rent have significantly increased since 2017-2018, along with Union fees. Consequently, many clients approach me with outdated budget expectations, assuming that it is still feasible to create films within the budgets of five years ago. I emphasize that while nothing is impossible to create, compromising on quality becomes inevitable. My focus lies on maintaining high-quality standards and practicing transparency. I believe in establishing honesty right from the beginning to effectively guide filmmakers through the intricacies of pre-production, production, and post-production processes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Currently, in 2023, I’ve developed a good taste for breweries, authentic coffee shops, and tea. Since relocating to the South Bay area, I’ve discovered the perfect routine to begin my day. I start with a delightful coffee and breakfast at Martha’s on 22nd Street in Hermosa Beach, indulging in a bagel with cream cheese and a flavorful latte.

Afterward, I head to the beach for a leisurely late-morning walk, enjoying the soothing atmosphere or opting for a refreshing bike ride along the coast.

For a satisfying lunch, I make my way to Hop Saint brewery in Torrance. Their beer flight is a must-try, particularly their exceptional IPAs which are truly unparalleled. I also highly recommend savoring their mouthwatering Smoked Brisket – it’s absolutely delicious!

As the afternoon transitions into evening, I venture to Racer Tea Bar in Redondo Beach to experience their handcrafted hot teas. The place exudes a captivating 80s rock vibe, which adds to its charm. It’s an ideal spot to unwind while relishing a unique tea blend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the incredibly creative individuals I had the pleasure of meeting during my early days as an intern at Ambush Entertainment. Matt, Miranda, Amanda, Jacob, Gabe, and Mike were not only exceptional mentors but also remarkable individuals who provided guidance and played a pivotal role in helping me establish my career. Each one possessed unique skills that greatly contributed to my growth and success. I am truly indebted to them for their unwavering support, which has shaped me into the professional I am today.
