We had the good fortune of connecting with Mcjordan Erhunmwunse and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mcjordan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
First I prioritized knowing what I like, spending time with myself. I wanted to get a good feel for my identity first, before selling anything. Which is how I think any aspiring business owner should start off thinking of – What’s your voice, what’s your niche. Still at times when I feel stuck, I take a step back from my ideas and work, and I take time to simply live – taking a run, sifting through images I find inspiring, getting something good to eat, meeting someone new. It serves as a reset and even on some occasions leads to some inspiration.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m proud of how I stayed inspired and worked efficiently throughout the pandemic, it’s helped me grow a lot as a designer. i’m also proud of other designers that had done the same and are still going ten times harder. I’m excited that things are starting to open up, the tensions of the pandemic is pulling back a lot. I’m also looking into opening a store location soon. Professionally I am where I am because of my curiosity and constant want to learn. Before starting my business I was obsessed with fashion history, learning about the forerunners and precursors to what we know and love in fashion today, studying iconic collections and patterns. I was so curious about my capabilities, and I still am. That curiosity tapped my work ethic and kicked it into a very high gear. Running any kind of business is never easy. I’ve learned that I constantly have to be thinking of my next move and being proactive. I want the world to know me as a innovative multi-faceted designer – An extremely conscious designer who puts the client first.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I honestly just recently started going out again after awhile! I’m normally inside sewing or sketching and when I do go out normally i’m by myself, but going to museums is definitely one of my favorite pastimes. The Renwick gallery in DC is a favorite. They have this installment with this netting on the ceiling that turns colors, you lay on the floor and just look up and watch the hues change, very relaxing and euphoric, i’d definitely take a friend there. I also love a good lounge! I’m spontaneous when it comes to food, whatever sounds good i’ll eat.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
If I had to give my shoutout to anyone It’d definitely be my father. He’s someone I can always go to, whenever i’m thinking of making any kind business decision. He’s a very aggressive businessman that’s cheered me on and has told me what I had to hear.
