Meet Meagan Nugent | Choreographer/ Creative

We had the good fortune of connecting with Meagan Nugent and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meagan, why did you pursue a creative career?
I would love to say I chose this life, but this life chose me. From being tossed around in the womb while my mom danced her heart out to never sitting still today. Movement is my stress reliever, my special weapon, and my heart. To have a passion and gift such as this, to share your talent, does come with a heavy burden though. Many will tell you you are not worthy, you are not enough, you don’t have what it takes, you will never make it, etc. Barriers & blockages will appear to deter you from your path. I’m here to say if you believe in YOU, nothing can deter YOU. I love this creative dance career because it’s who I am.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Growing up, dance is all I ever wanted to do, so when I was accepted into the Dance program at California Institute of the Arts and graduated with my Bachelors in Fine Arts, I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be. As I was in school, I started planting seeds on every single job I was hired for. Planting seeds meaning, I would say hello to every single person on the set, introduce myself, share connection and our passions for what we love. Years down the line, those seeds came to fruition, I was asked to create multiple showcases (which required: hiring dancers, as well as choreograph the artist and dancers) for Record Labels including Warner, Def Jam and Paramount Records, With this opportunity, Artist Development and Movement Coaching became a new passion, Simultaneously I received another opportunity to work with the reputable Laurieann Gibson, an Emmy nominated choreographer, Creative Director, Producer, Legend. Today, not only am I still dancing, but I am creating Experiences through feeling and expression in line with Creative Producing and Creative Directing. I absolutely love what I get to do and Blessed to be able to do it! I’m sure there are many “keys to success” but at the end of the day, never quit and NEVER give up on YOURSELF and your DREAMS!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a family member or friend visiting me in LA, this is how our week would look. We would go to all my favorite restaurants, including Din Tai Fung, IZAKA Katsu-ya, Osteria La Buca, Bacari, Gyu Kaku, Melting Pot, Benihanas and more . During the week they would come into my rehearsals, so they get to see what I am building/creating. For night life, I enjoy games and music so I would take them to billiards, bowling, axe throwing, an escape room or dave and busters, then to the Dime, Roger Room, Lock & Key, or Members for music and drinks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout LILY HART for believing in me EVERY STEP OF THE WAY
