Meet Melanie Melendez-Sellergren | Professional Mermaid & Fantasy Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Melendez-Sellergren and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melanie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought behind starting my own business was very simple. I wanted to do something nobody around me was offering, yes there are similar areas of performance, like Party Princesses, but I wanted to make Mermaiding Professionally unique to me. I get to use my creativity in multiple avenues like party and special event appearances, fantasy modeling, underwater performances, and much more.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My Art is all about bringing fantasy and myths to life. Doing this is not easy, but nothing worth doing in this life is. It’s a passion and I dedicate time, energy, love, and effort into every project. I have learned that dedication to your dream is both rewarding and challenging. I have learned not to let others determine how my dreams will come to pass, because there are those who enjoy tearing people down just for the sake of it. I want the world to look at my art and feel the impossible is possible, that fantasy can be reality, and that “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” – Walt Disney

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a Mermaid! Bring on the water! Beaches beaches beaches! We would grab food & drinks at a place along the beach, go for a swim, and enjoy the beauty of the view.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Credit for my growth and success definitely goes to my family and my pod (The Illinois MerPod). They all support me so vigorously and completely that I feel I can accomplish anything!
