Meet Melanie Tirado | Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Tirado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melanie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
First and foremost, I want to take this moment to thank Mike Bhand and the staff of ShoutOut LA for this opportunity. Let’s dive into it!
I contribute my career successes, to being motivated and determined, to see the end results of my creative endeavors. I attribute these factors to my childhood. My parents are artistic individuals. Music was prominent in my development of ideas and self expression. My fascination with storytelling and the technical aspects (provided with film) have been where my true strengths lay.
In my search of finding a team of people that would allow me the ability to reach the level of success I desired; I had the amazing opportunity to meet Walt Perez. The brand – Verloren Productions. “Verloren” is a film company founded by director/producer/writer Walt Perez. We specialize in film/television production; with seventeen titles under our name, and more in development.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
That’s a loaded question. haha. I consider myself an avid fan of movies. My favorite film genres are animation, horror, romantic comedies, action adventure and dramas. Movies have left a profound impression on me. As situations in my life changed while growing into my teen years, movies were the key to escape certain realities (of the time). They have served as an outlook to find an understanding of myself and a way to connect with others. There was a time, I didn’t consider it a career path. That all changed of course.
I learned the value of teamwork when I joined sports. I played for a local club soccer team for 9 years. In High School, I formed part of the Girls Varsity Soccer Team all four years, became Captain in my Senior Year.
After finishing High school, I took a job and started college. At the age of 19, I got a job at Warner Bros. Studios, in their tour department. There I was once again part of a team. To be able to be around many people that had different interests in film, awoke my dormant love & interest in film. Talking to my coworkers about our different interests in the industry, some were able to take me under their wing and teach me the knowledge of film I now know.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles is a wonderful city. The night scene is my favorite, and that would be something I would love to explore with friends. I would take them to my favorite restaurants and bars. And be open to new things that perhaps they want to try out. Definitely a good time to be had.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
“I am the sum of everyone I have ever met.” Though, I do consider myself an original. My mom taught me the value of being confident as an individual. To not be afraid to stand out amongst my peers. My dad showed me the ability to love the things I do. That with passion in my craft, and those who support me in it, anything is possible. I owe them a lot.
In connecting with Walt, I knew right away where I stood. His patience and willingness to teach me about the craft of filmmaking; he always has answers, and at times does tell long stories that in some way serve as a lesson. Our creative partnership is unique. I appreciate him.
Verloren Productions means the world to me. As a producer, it has taught me to grow and shown me the road I must follow to achieve the success I have wanted, since I first saw a film in the theater with my family. Yes, that may sound a bit odd for some, but all my aspirations began with my love for films. And the love I have for those around me.
