We had the good fortune of connecting with Melika Jamshidabadi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melika, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic and creative career because I believe that storytelling is one of the most powerful tools we have to create change and inspire empathy. As a filmmaker, I have the ability to bring attention to important social issues that may be overlooked or misunderstood. Through my films, I aim to spark conversations and encourage audiences to see the world from different perspectives. I believe that art and creativity can have a significant impact on society, and I am passionate about using my skills to contribute to positive change.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m especially proud of my recent work in creating films that raise awareness about Iran’s current situation, and I feel privileged to have been able to help raise awareness on the issues in my home country through my work. My journey to where I am today professionally wasn’t easy, especially as a female in the film industry. This has presented its own set of challenges, but I have been able to overcome them through my dedication and hard work.
One of the lessons I’ve learned is the power of collaboration and building a strong team. I’m grateful for the talented and passionate individuals who have worked with me on my films.
I use filmmaking as a tool to inspire positive change in the world and my goal is to inspire others to make a difference.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite areas to visit in LA are Downtown LA, with its impressive skyscrapers and historic buildings, and the Arts District, with its beautiful galleries and street art. For food, I love visiting popular spots like Grand Central Market, but my all time favorite place to eat is Parmiss Restaurant in San Juan Capistrano with the most amazing Persian food and live music! Of course, no trip to LA would be complete without a visit to the beach, and some of my personal favorites are Santa Monica and Venice Beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe a great deal of my success to the unwavering support and encouragement of my family. I want to thank my parents for always believing in me and for providing me with the resources and opportunities to pursue my dreams. I also want to give a shoutout to my sister, who has been my biggest supporter throughout my journey. I truly believe that without their love and guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
