We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Barba and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think your risk tolerance determines your success reward. There’s countless ocassions where I have taken major risks, mostly betting on my self, whether it was leaving a relationship, or a job, or switching carreers, borrowing money, moving, trusting people, but mostly the biggest risk is was trusting my self and my every move, knowing that someway some how things always work themselves out.

What should our readers know about your business?
In the Mortgage industry a lot of the banks offer the same programs, what set you apart, in this case what sets me apart is the ability to make things happen. Anyone can quote a rate or tell you about programs, the real question is how can I help you. There’s always things that can come up in a transaction and is how you handle and solve problems and find solutions that sets you apart. My motto is: “I wont’ tell you if you qualify, I’ll show you how to qualify”.

Also with my background on personal development this has helped a lot to not only help my clients and realtor partners with their business but also on how to maneuver with the emotional challenges that people go through when making life changing decisions such as buying a home and facing they money fears and programming.

It definitely wasn’t easy to get to where I am at today. It was very hard starting in this business and self generate business from the beginning not really knowing much or any people. However that never kept me from moving forward. What kept me going was the idea of what was possible. I saw how much other people in the industry were able to make and I knew having a regular job wasn’t an option for me. Being a single mom with two kids, my priority was have control of my time to be able to tend to my kids schedule and needs without having a limiting schedule. So basically failure wasn’t an option.

Talking about risk, I remember it was right after I got my mortgage license, I was barely making any money, I was going through court with my children’s father, I had to pay attorneys, and I was in a relationship that it was no longer serving me however I was somehow dependent financially (since I wasn’t really making money yet with mortgages) so, someway somehow, don’t ask me how, I got a shark loan for $35,000 to help me pay for the attorney and move out on my own and give me a cushion for a few months while I ramped up.

It was a huge leap of faith however I did it. I paid consequences for it, Years to pay that back however I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t taken that risk or leap of faith as I call it 🙂

The lessons that I’ve learned along the way is that you’ve got to take the chances for you. Nobody else is going to take the risk for you. You must believe that you are the money making machine and that betting on your self, investing on your self, connecting spiritually with you and your faith and taking chances on you is what will yield the most.

The only thing I want the world to know about me or my story is that we all have the same power of creation, of manifesting and materializing our dreams and wants into our lives. If you seek you shall find. The secret lies in gratitude for what we have so we can be open to receive more, give thank’s in advance for what you want to have (as if it already happened), be diligent with your time, be intentional, focus on what you want only, your focus is everything. What you focus on expand, as might as well focus and expand what you want.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my! Beautiful California there’s so much to see. I’m a beach girl. I love the ocean and all the beautiful cities and beaches around here. Starting with Malibu beach, I would take my friend to the self realization temple in Malibu beach, then go to Santa Monica promenade and enjoy the day visiting that area. Next day since are close by as might as well go to Universal studios. Why not, liven up the kid in us.

Then I would work my way down to Corona del Mar, Laguna Beach, Dana point and finish with la Jolla (close to San Diego) and do stand up paddling by the caves.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
OMG there’s so many. Is basically everything I talk in my book. The tools and techniques that got me here. However if we are talking about specifics, wow! There’s so many:

PSI Seminars was the first personal development course I attended and It changed my life at the time. Then I discovered NLP (Neurolinguistic programming) and taking these classes and certifications also changed my life, as I know had tools for life to help my self and others. As time continued I Kept seeking for ways to grow and kept finding different classes, meditation, therapists, energy healers, and plant medicines.
