Meet Melissa Gutierrez Reyes

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Gutierrez Reyes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
My business mission statement is “purpose over profit”, as a real estate agent it is important for my clients to know that I am more fulfilled with educating them, protecting their best interest and being a resource to them than I am to getting my compensation. Leading with integrity, empathy and most importantly caring enough about them and their situation is my priority.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a real estate professional, dedicating my time educating & helping families get into their first home or adding to their real estate portfolio and setting roots to generational wealth.
What sets me apart from other agents is that for me, this isn’t just transactional. My clients are forever. I take the time to really understand my clients’ needs, it helps me better assist them on reaching their goals.
I worked as a W2 employee for 5+ years in the real estate industry, working my way up to office management. I decided to take a chance on myself when I realized the opportunity for growth in the workplace was limited for someone like me. Truthfully, I’m grateful for the struggles I faced towards the end of my corporate job because it was what led me to go all in. To say I wasn’t scared or doubtful would be a lie, but again I leaned on my faith and support of my loved ones. They spoke life into me and reminded me that there is no universe that exists that I can’t have what I want.
Things I’ve learned so far are that, you get what you work for. Often times, you’ll be broken down before you build back up, but once you start building there is no going back down. The beautiful thing about this journey is that there is no one who can take it from you and you move at the pace you want. “Comparison is the thief of joy” so it’s also important for you to not compare your life to anyone else, God made your path unique.
What I want people to know is that I am a human first. Not perfect but I am a mother, wife and friend. I do right by people who give me the privilege to represent them, and their trust is not taken for granted.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m most definitely a foodie so my best friend would be too. For brunch we would go to “The Front Yard” in NOHO. Might go shopping and people seeing at The Grove, or start with a hike in Malibu. For dinner we’d go to either Bacari in Silver Lake or Firefly in Studio City. Probably end the night at “The Rhythm Room” in DTLA. They have the best games, drinks and even bar food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It takes a village, the support of my partner, Cleve, our kids, my parents and the mentors I’ve learned from throughout the years. Most importantly, to the most high for his divine timing. Taking a risk on entrepreneurship came at a challenging time but leaning into it with faith is what has gotten me thus far.
