Meet Melissa Locke | Mrs. California United States 2025 and Advocate for the Unhoused

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Locke and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I ask a few questions directly to myself,
Am I contributing to the betterment of my community?
Am I curious to learn more?
Does this spark joy in me?
Will this be important to include in my legacy?

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We created a 4 Part Docuseries about the work we do and it’s called, “It Takes A Village.” It has been entered in to film festivals to create more awareness and to educate how everyone can help our less fortunate and most vulnerable. Also I am helping raise awareness for Suicide Prevention and recently supported Mrs United States with her platform Preventing Child Trafficking.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love The Magic Castle and whenever someone comes to town I always take them there for brunch or dinner and then a few Magic shows after. The Academy of Motion Pictures is very educational and great place to visit. They have an incredible Oscar party each year. On Sundays they have this Free Form Dance community called Ecstatic Dance where they have a DJ and it’s a silent disco on Venice beach so that is something I love to go too. I think the Melrose Farmers Market on Sundays is a great spot place to visit too. Lake Shrine is a spiritual center with a mediation garden and hillside chapel with incredible views and a great place to pray and meditate.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Platform is Feeding the Unhoused and Families in California. My non profit is called Tree of New America and we organize mobile pop up food pantries in temporary housing for those that have transportation issues. We help housing complexes in Orange County with food as well as the unhoused on the streets.
