We had the good fortune of connecting with Mengyuan “Mia” Qin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mengyuan “Mia”, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
A key habit that has significantly contributed to my success is the consistent practice of self-reflection. In both personal and professional aspects of my life, taking the time to introspect and analyze my thoughts, actions, and experiences has proven invaluable. This habit has enabled me to gain a deeper understanding of my strengths and weaknesses, identify areas for improvement, and set realistic goals for growth. Regular self-reflection has not only fostered a heightened self-awareness but has also allowed me to make more informed decisions and navigate challenges more effectively. It serves as a compass for personal development, steering me towards continuous improvement and aligning my actions with my long-term aspirations. Embracing self-reflection has been a cornerstone of my journey, providing clarity, focus, and resilience in the pursuit of success.

In the realm of theater, the role of stage management is a testament to the essence of effective leadership. A theater stage manager serves as the linchpin of the production, orchestrating the seamless execution of a complex symphony involving actors, technicians, and various production elements. The leadership in theater stage management is multifaceted, requiring a unique blend of organizational prowess, interpersonal skills, and adaptability. A successful stage manager not only navigates the intricacies of production logistics but also acts as a calming force amidst the chaos of live performances. This leadership involves coordinating rehearsals, cueing technical elements, and maintaining open lines of communication with the entire production team.

As a stage manager, I must be adept at problem-solving, quick decision-making, and fostering a collaborative atmosphere. The ability to lead by example and manage the diverse talents and personalities involved in a theatrical production is crucial for achieving a cohesive and successful performance. I think the leadership in theater stage management is a delicate dance that requires precision, resilience, and a profound understanding of the art and science of theater production.
