We had the good fortune of connecting with Meredith Welborn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meredith, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been very creative. When I was younger, I participated in dance, voice lessons, piano lessons, musical theater, reading, writing, you name it (I also participated in sports, but let’s just say they were not my forté). In college, I majored in creative advertising, journalism and French. While my mother would probably say I have a flare for the dramatic, I think I’m just a good storyteller. And honestly, I think that’s what it all boils down to: storytelling. Through my social media, I’m able to share with people the story of my life! I love taking beautiful photos and creating fun hairstyles to share with people. On top of my socials, I also work full time in advertising, so I truly live and breathe storytelling and creativity.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a beauty, fashion and lifestyle content creator. I grew up in the ‘beauty guru’ YouTube era, so looking back on my life now, the trajectory of my career as a content creator makes so much sense. I’ve loved all things fashion and beauty from a young age, but after seeing my favorite creators on YouTube create a careers out of these things I loved, I wanted to do it too (although I had no idea how that was going to happen). I started my blog and Instagram at 18 years old as a way to share my knowledge of beauty and fashion with the world. Today I have more than 80k followers across Instagram and TikTok. These days I share a lot of hair content as well (my personal favorite thing to share). If I had to define my brand, I’d say it promotes a balanced lifestyle. I love getting glam and all things fashion and makeup, but I also spend a lot of my time working from home in sweatpants. I love eating healthy and working out, but I also love going out with my friends and drinking tequila sodas and eating pizza at the end of the night. I’m a generally pretty happy and optimistic person, but I also struggle with anxiety and like to be transparent with my followers about my mental health. I like my brand to be inspirational to people, but I also want it to be something that is relatable to people. I really view social media as connection, at the end of the day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a huge foodie, so I’d definitely take them to some my favorite spots here. Gotta stop at Night + Market (this place ALWAYS hits) and for a nice dinner, we’d maybe hit Felix (if we can get a reservation). Everything there is to die for – especially the squash blossoms and focaccia. In terms of going out, Venice is always a good idea. I enjoys bars more than clubs, so the Little Friend, the Brig, and Roosterfish would definitely be on our to-do list! I love a good flea market situation, so I’d take them to the Silverlake Flea or Melrose trading post. And we HAVE to hike! Basic, I know, but it’s one of my favorite things about LA. I love the West Ridge Trail or a classic Runyon hike is always fun. I know Joan’s on Third is known for their Asian chicken salad, but I think they have some of the best pancakes in the world and a killer breakfast burrito, so definitely get brekkie there one day and maybe a nicer brunch at Nic’s on Beverly. Obviously, we have to hit the beach at some point, and my favorite beach is Manhattan beach. I love to swim in the ocean and I love watching the surfers at El Porto. There’s a bunch of cute little restaurants, shops, and bars (*cough* *cough* Shellback). I also always love a good museum so the Getty Center, the Academy museum or something like that would definitely be on the list! Something I’ve learned from having visitors though is to plan less than you think you need because some of the most fun I’ve had while having guests visit are the days where we don’t have a lot of plans.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been interested in beauty and fashion from a young age which really was influenced by my mom. I did ballet, competitive cheer, musical theater, etc. when I was younger which all required getting glam (arguably my favorite part of these activities). And this was really a time when my mom and I bonded, she knew how much I enjoyed all things beauty and there was nothing I loved more than spending time with her the night before I cheerleading competition while she put sponge curlers in my hair or doing nails together while we watched movies. She always made time for things like this which always made me feel so special. My mom was also a model in her teens/twenties, so she was very immersed in the beauty and fashion world herself. She took up sewing when I was a child and sewed a big portion of my clothes when I was younger. My passions for makeup, hair, fashion, skincare is really something that is rooted in me and my mom’s relationship. Her support for my passions has always been a huge factor in any of my successes!
