We had the good fortune of connecting with Mia Ayana and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mia, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
Leaving everything I’ve ever known to follow my dreams.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m fueled by love and my passion to live. There was once a time when I lacked the sense of either. I’ve evolved because of my will to accept and trust the process of every obstacle thrown my way. Maybe that sets me apart — my will to take what I’m given and transform it into something beautiful.
Consistency, observation, faith and action. — how I’ve overcome. I watch, I learn, I take action and pray. I then repeat. In life, we play the cards we’re dealt and that’s been the case for me. There’s no easy answer for how I got here but it really comes down to those four things.
Music is something that flows for me: in my mind when I’m walking, working, staring blankly into the sky…. It’s not a chore and that’s why I’m so heavily attached. It’s the process — conceptualizing a beat in my mind, working with a producer to make it come to life, recording the words I’ve written, hearing the finished product. There really is no feeling like it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

– Bistro 45
– The Independence
– Mastro’s
– Veggie Grill (for quick bite)
– Delicious Pizza

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family, @iamsmuve and all other producers who’ve helped me bring the songs in my head to life, my fiancé who shoots my music videos and deals with hours of impatience from me to execute a plan on top of being my backbone, my friends who listen and give me honest feedback and inspire me to keep pushing, my engineer @brass.
Most importantly, God.
