We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Bryan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
One of my favorite quotes was from a Drill Instructor I had while in the Marines. He used to tell us, “The only easy day was yesterday.” That’s always played a significant role in my life. I really love the concept that, no matter how difficult your days get, as long as you persevere and push through then you will be successful. I think that’s really important for people to remember. Life will kick you, twice when you’re already down it seems; however, if you can get through one day to the next, you’ll learn how to find contentment in your life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I remember when I presented the idea of the website to Juliet. She really loved to write and I wanted to encourage her to pursue her creativity. I suggested we start a website where she could tell her stories and maybe help others in their own healing journeys. We learned how to do everything from the ground up. I had a little experience with websites, but it definitely was a bit of a stretch beyond my comfort zone. It was nice to have someone encourage that creative outlet. It definitely hasn’t been easy, but when you look at the finished product and says to yourself “I helped create that” there’s just something so rewarding about that. As we started to tackle the podcast, I had to again learn a lot of skills along the way. It’s been amazing to watch people respond to Juliet and BrokenGirl Unchained. Just being a part of that whole process has been rewarding unto itself.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of the things I like about the area is the architecture and picture worthy locations. There’s so many little nooks and crannies that you can create art almost anywhere. It can be something as innocuous as a side street with a great view, but once you put your subject into the camera frame, it really comes alive. Along with the other skills I’ve had to learn as part of BrokenGirl Unchained, I’m also the main photographer. I always wanted to learn photography, but just never decided to take the plunge. Now, I can be anywhere and I look at the aesthetics of a place and can see beauty or the potential for art. I love that about the area.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This wouldn’t have happened without my partner, and the most beautiful person I know, Juliet Ramos. I’ve watched her push through so many obstacles that would make most people want to give up and quit. She’s a great mom, a kick ass entrepreneur, and one badass woman. I’m proud to be taking this chapter of my life’s journey together with her.
