Meet Michael Greenwood | Cinematographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Greenwood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I worked a corporate job throughout school and quickly learned to hate working for others. Being my own boss became my top priority. As soon as I figured out how to pay my bills making films (lots of sketchy Craigslist music videos), I gave my resignation and haven’t looked back!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think everybody has a story to tell. Our job in life is to figure out how to peel back the years of programming and socialization to tell that story as authentically as possible. I spend my time working on myself, doing things I love, and sharing those things with others. Travel, fitness, good food; all these things influence my perspective in life and I make the stuff I make a little bit richer, realer.
Learning who I am, and taking challenging steps to embrace uniqueness – that’s the good stuff! 🙂

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let’s spend as little time indoors as possible shall we? That’s the beauty of LA, fantastic weather with a dash of exceptionalism; let’s dress up but show a little skin. We’ll smoke cigars and sip Mezcal at my backyard fire pit. We’ll eat Tex-mex tacos on the oudoor patio at Homestate in Highland Park. Bring your trunks, we’ll hang at my grandfather’s pool and lounge like solar panels. Fatigued from the sun and in no way ready for the night to end it’s either Armenian food at Raffi’s in Glendale or Peruvian at “El Dorado’s” in Pasadena.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout for being in the right time at the right place. I think a lot about how much being born in Los Angeles (Burbank specifically) massively influenced the trajectory of my life. Imagine I was born in Wisconsin? I’d probably be cracking my knuckles after a long day of milking cows… It’s easy to romanticize creative work (film is in my blood!) but I think I’m certainly a product of my environment. I grew up surrounded by all of the major motion-picture studios. I think my; not fully-formed brain took for granted how competitive of an industry it is and I just decided to make a go of it at an early age.
