Meet Michael Matteo Rossi | Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Matteo Rossi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Stick with those who you love working with and give a positive hard working energy. Once you have built that trust you want to work with those people again and again.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started making films at 19 while I was still at San Diego State and once I made even my first short film, I was hooked. Now, over 16 years now I just completed my 8th feature film that is in post now and couldn’t be happier. I mostly direct character driven crime action thriller type films and I’ve learned that you have to have you guard up a bit in this business because people talk a lot and once you find the legit ones, continue to work with them! It’s about building a great positive team.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a museum guy so I’d definitely take them to some art museums like The Getty, the Norton Simon Museum and the Getty Villa. While we were at the Villa, would absolutely go to certain parts of Malibu like Point Dume or Matador beach since it’s beautiful. If they wanted to literally walk around Hollywood we could as well. I’m a space nerd too so we would go to the observatory too! Some of my favorite restaurants as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My production designer Erica Lorena because she has always been there for my while we’ve worked together and is such a kind sweet spirit that I will work with a lot more
