We had the good fortune of connecting with Michea Peterkin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michea, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work life balance has had a drastic change due to my current career change. I used to have an unhealthy balance of mostly work, and enjoying leisure between my time off from work, and school. I’m currently a flight attendant, and this job has allowed me to have the work-life balance of my dreams. The flexibility offered to me allows me to take a break when needed, as well as work my butt off when I want.
I love having this balance because I am able to focus on other aspects of my life as well.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a flight attendant for a major airline. It took a few tries for me to land the position, so no, it wasn’t easy. The biggest lesson I learned along the way was that anything meant for you will not pass you by. I gave up on applying, and right when I did is when I got the job.
What I want everyone to take away from this is to never give up on yourself. Keep chasing your dreams, and BELIEVE in yourself.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Atlanta, Ga. I’m a girl that enjoys the luxuries in life, so if my friend was visiting she would be in for a fancy trip. There’s a ton of amazing restaurants here to try. My favorites would be The Betty, Mission & Market, and Cooks & Soldiers. For drinks or a turn up I would take her to Pasha, St Regis Bar, Bar Margot or The Garden Room.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my mother. She’s the most hardworking woman I know, and I aspire to have her drive. She also has been very supportive of all my crazy life decisions, and has helped me navigate them.
