We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Giraldo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
At the end of my career as a screenwriter, I hope that many of my stories have been brought to the big screen. My aim is to conclude my journey feeling that I have left a positive impact capable of empowering new voices and inspiring future generations of writers to overcome the challenges that the film industry presents along their path. Ultimately, I wish to be able to look back on my career with a profound sense of satisfaction and gratitude for having had the opportunity to share my narratives with the world and to have contributed, in some way, to the global cultural landscape of cinema. It would be an honor to collaborate and learn from talented directors and producers in order to bring my stories to life in a masterful way.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My professional trajectory has been focused on the audiovisual world, where I have participated in a variety of animation projects, taking on roles such as an artist in “Sonic Mania Adventures” and collaborating on animated short films. Currently, I am immersed in the writing and art direction of a short film titled “Anchors,” a project that fills me with enthusiasm and dedication.

During the pandemic, in collaboration with my colleague Isaac Rubio, we decided to breathe life into a story that I had been developing for some time: “The Shadow of Kaia.” Despite initial doubts about transitioning from writing children’s content to one more geared toward juvenile horror, I decided to tackle the challenge with determination.
Our collaboration has been essential, and the public’s response to our publication on the Webtoon platform has been exceptional. I continue to work on “The Shadow of Kaia” with a firm commitment, intending to expand its reach even further.

My ability to adapt to changes, cultivated since childhood, allows me to pursue my goals with unwavering motivation.
Through my stories, I seek to connect with the audience and serve as a constant source of inspiration and motivation. However, my greatest source of pride lies in my family, consisting of my husband and our daughter. Their unwavering support and presence are the driving force behind my dedication and creativity in every project I undertake.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had to choose a favorite destination among Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, and Griffith Observatory to watch the sunset, it would definitely be difficult to decide, because each one has its own magic! From the impressive views of dolphins and whales on Newport Beach’s shores to the beautiful coastal landscapes of Laguna Beach, and the fascinating experience of watching the sunset from Griffith Observatory, they all offer unforgettable moments.

Additionally, the area is filled with enriching museums, from the Laguna Art Museum to the Orange County Museum of Art. And, of course, how could one forget the excitement of visiting Disneyland? It’s a completely captivating adventure.

When it comes to enjoying delicious food, there is no doubt that Honolulu Avenue in Montrose is the ideal place. With a wide variety of gastronomic options to satisfy every palate, it is the perfect destination to complete a day full of adventures in Southern California.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to take this moment to express my sincere gratitude to Isaac Rubio, director and animator. His presence has been a bright light on my professional path, and for that, I am deeply thankful. The successes I have achieved thus far would not have been possible without his generosity, dedication, and unwavering belief in me and in every project we have undertaken together. Every achievement I celebrate, I do so with his figure in mind, recognizing that he has been an integral part of my journey.
